Right, but my point is he seems to be acting like we arenāt selling tickets well to this game that we are more than 3 months away from.
From what they told me we have sold very well. I also imagine they are saving a big students push until later in the summer. At one point they were trying to get the AD to cover a chunk of student ticket costs, but current climate with money may have changed that.
clt doesnāt give students a break often, but this is a bit much. they are dealing with exams right now, and should not be concerned with the appy game. we are a R1 school, academics matter.
clt purchased seats in the Charlotte club area quickly, before they sold out. no ticket issues here
clt says it is under 50 days away, time for a game chat page!
niners plus any points is free $
Who knows what to expect but we have an experienced HC, who has won a lot as a HC, whereas app has a guy who is new to being a HC, and will be calling his own plays. I think we have the advantage at the LOS and LB, other positions are toss ups.
Just saw the line, App still favored by 8.5.
Seems like a lot, but similar set up to last years first game, new coaches on both sidelines and JMU (sun belt) wins by 23. We only scored 7ā¦.
So the line would be based on our lack of scoring, it seems we are much better off at QB this year, so that could make a material difference, i would think if we go with the Harrel who is a running QB that should reduce the risk of a big margin of victory for App. Which would mean more ball control than last years offense (we had 2 Ints) Hard to tell what would be difference on D this year.
So my conclusion is maybe this line is 2 or 3 pts too high, but lets see.
Week 1 lines, especially with new coaches and all that roster turnover, is basically a guess.
Just another game to me. I donāt care that much about playing App anymore.
I mostly agree. Iād rather just pass them and move onto bigger things
8.5 seems a little high, I would expect it will come down some closer to the game. Weāre 0-3 against them, I would like to put that narrative behind us with a win. I am hoping itās a great atmosphere.
From what I understand, Appās transfer QBs have more starts / better stats than ours. I think otherwise, this is going to be a very close game. Hoping Albin bringing in a few former guys to lead the defense will help us picking up his scheme faster, and that we will be the more disciplined team and that will be the difference.
He played 2 years at vandy, put up a conbined 2700 yards in those 2 years
Yeah, thatās against SEC competition too.
Loftis has the best stats of our newcomers, IIRC:
In 10 career games (five starts), completed 91-of-163 (.558) passes for 1,006 yards with eight TDs and four INTs ⦠posted a career pass efficiency rating of 119.00
Not even sure if Loftis will start for us. The video game thinks we will start Harrell. It also has us exactly evenly matched on offense and defense. For whatever thatās worth.
I do think it should be pretty close. Like you guys I think the spread is based more on history than current rosters and coaching.
If I were betting Iād take the points. Feels like free money.
clt says we should start Reynolds. The ncaa is feckless
Harrellās is 43-70 for 552 yards, with 4 Tds and 3 picks, which gives him a passer efficiency rating of 138. Harrell also has 130 yards rushing on 38 carries (3.4 yards/carry), while Loftis has 4 yards rushing on 2 carrie (2.0 yds/carry).
We should also include Wilcke. In 2022, he was 100-175 for 1151 yards with 8 Tds and 9 Ints, a passer efficiency rating of 117.2, plus 43 yards rushing on 45 carries. At NW Mississippi Community College last year, admittedly a different level he was 164-283 for 2051 yards with 15 TDs and 9 Int, giving him a pass efficiency rating of 130.0. He added 267 yards rushing on 60 carries, 3.1 yards/carry.
Ranking the QBs based on FBS play:
Efficiency:
Harrell (2023-4) 138
Loftis (2023) 118
Wilcke (2022) 117
In terms of QBR:
Loftis 62.1 (2023)
Harrell 49.3 (2023), 15.6 (2024)
WIlcke 27.7 (2022)
In terms of Rushing yds/carry:
Harrell 3.4
Loftis 2.0
Wilcke 1.0
None of this tells us anything, other than that all of them are at least capable QBs. Weāll have to see which one demonstrates the leadership, and the will to win, and earns the starting job. I have no preference; I just want to find one that refuses to lose, and who can get the whole team to have the same attitude.
This is what worries me most about the start of the season. We donāt have
A quarterback. I think this is a big reason for the large point spread for the App game.
I think our qb situation is about as settled as theirs
We have 3 viable starting QBs. We just donāt know WHICH one will start in week 1.
I guess John Madden and I will just have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.
āIf you have two quarterbacks, you have noneā.
