2025 49er Football Week 12 - Game #10 vs UTSA 11/15 12N ESPN+

He at least moved the ball. I’ll take that. I don’t see much of a chance with Loftis. Doesn’t matter anyway at this point. Season is over.

We have been outscored so far this year, 340-127 against our FBS peers

We regressed so much this year, I’ll be suprised if we win a single FBS game

Considering the season is almost over, that’s not a bold statement

Our offense is horrendous. No offensive line. Bad play calling.

Fair point. Always forget how short the college football season is

We have more talent than Army and Rice, are around the same level as Temple and ECU, and North Texas, USF and UTSA aren’t that much better than us.

This season has had some of the most pussified conservative offensive playcalling I have ever seen. Defensively, our DL sucks and that affects the rest of the unit, which is a recruiting issue. We are better than the result we have gotten. This season is an indictment on Albin/Fitch just as much as anybody else.

No way we have more and same level of talent as the teams you noted.

With OL play as weak as it is, no play calling is going to look good.

Fair point @49ercc but does it have to be so contradictory to our personnel?

No one is claiming that Wilcke is a great QB, only that he doesn’t panic under pressure, and that, when he keeps the ball, he runs like he intends to gain yardage. The result is that the offense tends to move the ball more steadily when he is in. When Loftis is in, if he has time to pass, he’s a very good passer, and he can gain yardage in big chunks. He very rarely, however, leads a long steady drive.

Considering the state of the offensive line, Wilcke would be my choice. If next year’s OL is better, I might go the other way, but not now.

I think Loftis is the wrong QB for the lack of OL that we have. Yes he stretches the defense more in theory, but he also lets the defense get easy sacks with 3rd down blitzes because he is immobile. Wilcke is better in all the ways Carl talks about but he is way more likely to force a pass that becomes an INT. Pick your poison.

Our problems all start with our decimated OL. It’s not good enough to do much.

If I’m Albin, I’m donating my salary back specifically to use to sign OL. It’s that much of an issue. He doesn’t make it past next season unless we fix the OL and DL.

clt says the first step to improved line play is a healthy team

How was the crowd today?

Loftis has also thrown 5 picks, and worse, if I recall, at least a couple of those were pick 6’s where he was throwing an out pattern that got jumped.

Yeah. He tends to stare down the receiver.

About what you would expect for a 1-8 team. Maybe 6k butts in seats. Students that were there were good but there weren’t many. The rest of the crowd wasn’t much better.
