2025 Charlotte 49er Football ๐Ÿˆ

Historically our spring game has been free. Itโ€™s been pretty well attended at times, especially when we have had a new coach and the weather was nice.

How many of the โ€œnewโ€ season ticket holders are UNC fans? Would be interesting to see. Would hate for the majority to be Carolina fans which would leave our stadium empty for the other home games.

That can happen. One year, Ohio charged a premium for the Marshall game, but continued to offer a super cheap โ€œfamily packโ€. The Marshall fans scooped up the family packs and discarded the other tickets. On the other hand, if they try to get some money back by reselling the other tickets, it might be possible to get some really good prices on individual tickets later.

I guess we wonโ€™t know until after the first game and then if the secondary ticket market is suddenly flooded with tickets. I think requiring the seat donation with the season ticket purchase discourages some of that. Itโ€™s a possibility though. I believe Alabama fans bought up Duke season tickets the year they played in Durham and I know Nebraska did that at Wake Forest a long time ago.

Date choice seems like it wasnโ€™t completely thought through. Itโ€™s spring break and the day before Easter.

As a parent whose son played club soccer, I can tell you that scheduling sporting events during Easter weekend is something thatโ€™s been going on for some time and most organizers couldnโ€™t care less about that.

Agreed. Also, do we really want to showcase our players for others schools to NIL steal our players? SEC eyes are watching.

The next portal window is April 16-25th. We play in the middle of it. I wonder if will lose players or gain some players before the spring game. I have a feeling one of our QBs may dip

April would be a tough time to enter the portal. Remember:

  1. A player has to voluntarily give up their scholarship to enter the portal
  2. There are still many players in the portal who have not found new homes, and most of those may not be playing football this fall
  3. Teams have to be down to 105 players by fall. They can still be over 105 now, but will have to drop some walkons after Spring ball. Most of those dropped will enter the portal.

For most players I believe that a choice to enter the portal in April would be a case where 1+2+3=0. Unless they are seriously unhappy, most players would be better off waiting until December, when everything turns in their favor. 2026 will be a double player attrition. Players who entered football in 2020 will run out of eligibility (covid year plus 5 years=6 total). Player who entered football in 2021 will also run out of eligibility (no covid year plus 5 years=5 total). Double attrition is going to leave most teams needing to add 30-40 players, so the portal will be very, very active.

Yes, Charlotte still has only 100 players at the moment. They will add 5 more players before they are done, but most teams are not in that situation.

Upon reflection, I now realize that itโ€™s CMSโ€™s spring break not the university. Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s on my radar - weโ€™re travelling that week since my kid is out of school.

But still, probably a lot of uni students will be back home since itโ€™s a holiday, which will/could limit the crowd size. That was my unstated point.

Would like to add 1 more running back but I feel fairly confident in both those position groups. I think the defense needs some additions more
