Sometimes your questions are answered in spring practice, and sometimes they’re only the beginning. Here are some things I’m wondering about as Charlotte barrels towards spring practice. (Yes I know I’m early)

Playing clean, disciplined, and strengthening bonds between players outside of individual units is a great start to a winning culture.

Well, Spring Practice is around the corner. I believe it starts Monday. What will Albin do? Probably about the same things other coaches do, just as he has done so far. He has no secret drills, or secret magic that will transform players into better players. In other areas, he has proceeded methodically to build a player pool from the portal, and a staff from the coaches available, and to condition the players. Now I expect that he will proceed methodically to evaluate the players, and to make sure the players understand what he expects. Will he do anything that will be dramatically different than what Healy or Poggi did, or say things that are dramatically different than they would have said? Probably not.
While Spring practice will be “exciting” as the beginning of the Albin coaching period, it will most likely not be “exciting” in terms of being able to see or know anything tangible about how the team will look this fall. Will this team be good, or bad, or just different? We’ll have to wait until Fall to know. That said, what will be interesting to me is if you guys do see anything about what he is doing that IS different than what Healy and Poggi did.
One thing I will warn you is that Albin is no media star. He has improved at press conferences, but it’s definitely not his forte.

Another new face, Gavin Shipman joins Charlotte ahead of spring practice. Gavin comes to us from Harvard, (where he was a Neuroscience major) after playing there for four seasons. He was the valedictorian of his class at Thompson High School.
Remind me to lay off the “this isn’t brain surgery” jokes while Gavin is playing…

I, for one, don’t care if he is media savvy. I want a winner (which he is) and wins (which we don’t have a lot of).
Go bowling, win the conference, beat APP and some of the P4’s we face.
Dare I wish for a CFP invite sometime in the future? Go Niners!
