I hope the staff uses this portal window to really address the front 7, because I think our secondary is going to be very, very good this year based on what I saw. Bell and Nardo are doing a helluva job with the guys there. We can also use another TE and OL.
I hope this staff starts recruiting Texas more. The state is teeming with athletes at every position and not all of them are going Power 4. If ECU and Wake can sign some Texas prep players there is literally no reason why we can’t.
What’s up Niner Nation! Pumped to be joining y’all as my brother has officially committed to playing for Coach Albin and the 49er faithful! Can’t wait to get him to Charlotte and on the field! My entire family is super excited for the journey ahead and we can’t wait to watch some great football these next couple of years!! GO NINERS!!
Wow those Chapel Hill tickets haha. We’re certainly trying to maximize revenue. $188.00 GA tickets. Speaking of which, anyone have any ideas when the season tickets holders will be able to get extras for that one?
Very interesting, thanks. What I would find even more interesting is a comparison between how each Ohio and Charlotte team progressed over the year. In other words, what was the final rating for each team, and the preseason rating for the same team? Did they improve, or under-perform?
Thank you, thank you! And there you have the reason I am here, and the reason for my optimism about this fall. Albin’s improvement from preseason to actual result has been:
2021 -10.4 (after which, there were entirely justifiable calls for his termination)
2022 +7.1
2023 +9.4
2024 +14.3
In 2021, Albin was promoted to head coach with no notice when Solich unexpectedly retired for health reasons, and the season did not go well. He replaced a number of assistant coaches for 2022, and since then has been on a tear. I certainly hope that, once all the portal transfers are taken into account, Charlotte starts higher than -22.8, hopefully no lower than -12 or so. I then hope that Charlotte will improve by 10-14 from there. A 24 point swing from the current -22.8 will swing a lot of those games in favor of Charlotte, perhaps enough to end up in a bowl, and only the Georgia game will still be out of reach.
As an additional comment, for every team that improves it’s position during the season, some other team has to go in the other direction. The coaches where teams under-perform are usually the coaches who normally end up out of work. Charlotte did neither, either under Poggi or Healy. In all of the last four seasons, Charlotte essentially performed as expected.
Cautiously optimistic that Albin will have us playing better by mid season, but that non conference schedule is a bowl dreams killer.
App, CHeat, Mon-mouf, and then Georgia in the home stretch of our conference schedule (when we can least afford the types of injuries those games tend to produce)
Albin went what, 3-9 his first season as HC at Ohio? Based on that schedule above, that’s probably pretty reasonable as far as expectations go. Hate to say it.
You know what? I don’t think the guys on the team will find 3-9 acceptable. In fact, I’m counting on it. I’m counting on them aiming for a bowl win this year. I’m counting on them already busting their butts in conditioning. I’m counting them working hard in every way, so that when they arrive in Fall Camp, they are ready to move to the next phase. I’m counting on them going into every game (except maybe Georgia) believing they can win.
I will be sad if I am wrong, but I believe this team is going to surprise some people this fall, and I hope that starts with App State. I do expect some rough spots, but I also expect significant improvements each week. In the end, we all reserve the right to change our criteria for what is “good” as the season unfolds.
