Believe that’s the first one I’ve ever missed. Terrible scheduling. Holiday weekend. No definite starting time.

First one I have missed also. I just can’t do Easter weekend. Hate I missed it.

If Wilcke had a high ankle sprain, it’s no surprise that Harrell and Loftis came out of Spring ahead of him. I got a high ankle sprain in January, and the damn thing has taken forever to heal. He’ll get a new shot in the fall, when he’s 100%. Honestly, I like all three of the QBs. I think any one of them could do the job.

I thought Wilke looked better. He had a lot of dropped passes. He seemed to have a better eye.

I definitely could be wrong but it seemed like they played more real 11 v 11 than previous spring games.

I thought it was fun.

I expect the offense to end up being some combination of things previously done by Fitch, and things previously done by Albin, but where on that spectrum it end up, I can’t even begin to guess. For those that were at the ā€œspring gameā€, what sorts of plays did the offense run? Pocket passes, or rollouts? Any traditional sweep option plays? Run/pass options? Power runs up the middle, or sweeps? Reverses? Lots of pulling guards/tackles, or straight ahead zone runs? Delayed runs/draw plays? Conventional screen passes, or bubble screens?

Same here, first I missed because of Easter weekend.

Also caught the tail end of CMS spring break. Poor timing with the holiday and public school spring break.

I thought Harrell looked like he moved the offense best but it’s hard to tell in this kind of setting. Glad to see we have three functional QBs.

Did you miss Charlotte’s spring showcase? I was paying attention to who’s in along the offensive line. I charted the combos and I had a few thoughts.

Thanks for that report, NinerLiner. I do have a couple of questions about your OL lineups, though. In one case, I think there’s a simple error: In the 6th grouping, you list Coates at RG, which it obviously wasn’t. I’m guessing it was Adair, who, like Coates, wears 56.

My other question is about the RT in the 9th grouping, where you list ā€œMayesā€. Does this mean what I think/hope it means? I’m hoping that it means that Mitchell Mayes was recently approved for another year, and that he has just now joined the team, and put in a brief appearance?

Correct on the first account. I’ll probably go back in to excel and fix that this afternoon for correctness’ sake.

I can’t speak to whether or not Mayes was approved for another year, just that he was on the field briefly this past Saturday. Now, I could have made another mistake but I recorded by number and went back in and added names last night. Sometimes players’ numbers were hard to see from the press box, but I only recorded the ones I was nearly 100% sure on.

It was obvious they were keeping things pretty vanilla. They did some power runs. Most of the time seemed to be running 2 tight ends with our 280 pound tight end. They did some read option plays. Lot of flares to multiple different players. Seemed a lot designed quick throws and getting the players out into open space. There were some roll outs

I was at the showcase on Saturday. From my observations…

  • I think Harrell is our best option at QB
  • Chaney will likely get most of the carries but Gainey has improved a ton
  • McGowan, Burris and Mason stood out to me at WR
  • I think Bearns can be a NFL fullback if he can reshape his body a bit
  • Our OL physically looks the part
  • We badly need help on the DL. That DT transfer we just got is huge
  • LBs don’t impress me at all, we need help there too
  • Our top CBs are Baldwin, Clinkscales and Bootle
  • Top safeties are Conley and Gill. Cotman, McGee, Curtain, Grant and Randy Franklin look good too. Safety might be the most impressive position on our team, they look like a P5 unit

The Retro Bowl helmets one is a nice touch.
