Might as well be optimistic, we donāt really know with the portal and a new coaching staff. Practices are also closed so there is no information to be gleaned. What we do know is that Albin won alot of games the last three seasons at Ohio.
MeenJoe, as I said, a bubble screen is not an every down play, itās a misdirection, intended to open up the defense. Now, if the O-line sucked, then the QB is going to get drilled on nearly every pass play, that forces some different tactics, but otherwise, they should be a rare call.
Note that there will be plays that Albin will call that people will complain about too. The play he has always called a lot that was not popular with fans was the option to the short side. Nevertheless, it needs to be called sometimes. You canāt give the D the freedom to ignore the short side.
In the end, there are a lot of different offenses, and offense philosophies, and lots of different play calling strategies. They arenāt any of them ārightā or āwrongā. In the end, itās results that matters. If Charlotte averages under 25 points a game, itās going to be a long season. If they average over 30, itās going to be fun, and if they average over 35, itās going to be a lot of fun.
I will add that play calling is only a small part of what makes an offense successful. If you have great players, the play caller can call almost anything, and it will work. If your offense is patched together, and not very good, few plays are going to work.
The plays that are selected also need to account for the abilities of the players. If, for example, Harrell is the QB, I expect some passing, and a fair amount of option. If Loftis is the QB, I expect more passing, and less option. Regardless of who it is, I expect a mix of both. You canāt have a ārunning QBā and a āpassing QBā or the defense knows what to expect. The same is true of the RB position. If you have a bigger power back in, I expect more runs up the middle, and if you have a shiftier, faster back in, I expect more wide plays, but either way, I expect some of both.
I expect play calling to change from week to week, depending on the defenses, and as the coaches have more information on the abilities of each of their players. The offense will not be a finished product against App. State. I expect it to evolve and improve as the season progresses.
Yāall better listen to mean Joe. He told us all Kenny Pickett was the next Joe Montanaā¦..
Man I hope itās a station with a decent signal ![]()
Skylar Thompson is the next next Joe Montana
Pontificate on the counter trap coach
You are right, Jeff was not a good offensive coordinator. In fact he was terrible, including at the FCS level. He would have remained a bad offensive coordinator at the FBS or FCS levels, should anyone hire him.
I donāt believe you celebrate a culture of losing. I think it pissed you off, but you certainly tolerate it better. The issue is why bring Jeff in at all? To tell them about Jesus?
Does anyone think these new kids need to hear about the Gardner Webb comeback win? Thatās about the only game I can remember Jeff finally abandoning the bubble screen, which he had to being down big time to a less talented team.
Iām no coach, but the counter trap is one of my favorite plays. I expect to see a lot of pulling linemen, and some well run trap plays in this Fitch-Albin offense.
Sorry but you are Wasting your time with him.
You are sorry
Mine too Carl. Itās among the most beautiful offensive play calls with so many variations. You can have a pulling guard. Or a pulling tackle, Or a pulling center, or a tight end.
My favorite is a pulling guard with a pulling tackle following. It takes impactful linemen with speed and agility paired with a smart, patient and explosive running back.
In my opinion, it is nearly the opposite of the bubble screen. It can strike fear in defenses. If you are a defensive lineman, you better lookout for the pulling train. After that, you can focus big linemen on little corners where a patient running back can break a long run.
lol. Thanks for proving my point
Where were you born and raised son?
I donāt know anyone who ever played o-line at any level who didnāt love counter traps.
Act fast! Fewer than 200 general public tickets remain for the Ninersā second home game of the 2025 season.
I think weāll end up selling out most games this season again. We have great momentum for the quality of play weāve produced the past couple of years.
That is normal following the hire of a new coach. To sustain the momentum, you need results.
