I had no issue with some student fees supporting athletics. But when players are making money it seems inherently wrong to put students into debt to fund a professional sports model.

I don’t disagree but are student fees actually going to pay the players or to operate the infrastructure of the athletic department?
Indirectly. Student fees pay for the operational budget that supports all school and the fees cover sport specific costs but the key is if a donor gives money to golf that doesn’t usually increase golf’s budget, it just frees up money to find other things - like paying players.
I don’t know how this took me so long but our team is completely new, App State is completely new, and Chapel Hill is completely new.
Are we playing any schools who aren’t completely different? (Less than 20 transfers)
With respect to coaches, most are not new. Other than the P2, rosters will be new every year with most teams. That is unfortunately what we can expect to see from now on in both football and basketball.
I didn’t start watching college sports until like 2021 so this is all I know haha
The honest truth is that college sports is changing fast, and next year will be different than this year, while this year is different than last year. None of us truly know what to expect. Some teams have a lot of turnover, some have much less. Having a stable coaching staff helps, while having a totally new staff hurts. Having coaches that do a good job helps. Having good team morale helps. Having lots of NIL helps. Having good facilities helps. Having a good location helps.
Albin can’t hang his had on NIL. Instead he will try to hang in on the side of staff stability, good coaching, and team morale, as well as a good location. Only time will tell how that all works out.
Probably army
Just reading through this thread, kids complaining about parking is nothing new. They all want a 50 story parking deck on top of Fretwell for their conveniece instead of just walking or taking the bus to campus.
Also, most kids have a squirrels understanding of where their money goes. We used the athletic fee as marketing tool for FJR and most them had no idea athletics was subsidized heavily or at all by their tuition. It does explain why student loans are so confusing to the average graduate.
It all goes into the same pot.
there is no way to say student fees are not subsidizing revenue share payment to athletes.
they can throw out whatever word salad they want to to try to say that it’s not happening but numbers don’t lie.
@CarlP your point about FCS revenue is well taken but the expenses go up as well. It’s not like an FCS program suddenly gets a windfall. They also have more expenses. I would bet that overall costs go up more than revenue.
let’s face it. Salaries for coaches and AD staff at the high end of the org chart are way too high. They are probably way too low at the low end of the org chart.
STOP THE COUNT
We did it y’all.
clt says that number was around 60 in a CBJ interview

It doesn’t appear that McGowan ever used a redshirt year, so he should be able to use that this year, and return next year.
Thats good news
So, which transfers have gone on to be starters elsewhere?
At P4: WR Blake, Thomas, OL Spasojevic-Moko, Wilkins, Spec Teams Rusnak, Booker
At G5: WR Mack, RB Norton, TE Dippre, DT Evans, SS Al-Mahi
I would say that comparing those in to those out via the portal, Charlotte clearly came out worse at WR, OL, and RB while they clearly came out better at DE, LB, and CB. At most of the other positions, differences are smaller. My net conclusion is that the portal improved the talent level on defense, but that the offense has less talent.
Now the question is, can the piece together an offense effective enough to score some points with what they do have? They say you win with defense, but really, you do have to score some points, too. I think Charlotte can score enough points to win some games, but they will need to be battles where Charlotte scraps for every yard and every point they can get. The defense may need to score a few points, too.
I dont think the offense has enough talent or size to win smash mouth football. We are going to have to be creative and use some smoke and mirrors to get some points. So far we have not seen much creativity from the O.
