I agreeâŚoffensive was very vanilla against appy, but I thought looked a bit better against the Tar Heels (unforced errors hurt in both gamesâŚhow many bad snaps last game? I recall at least four that really hurt). I still donât understand why Brown is getting more snapsâŚ
We wonât be a good running team it seems, but hopeful we figure something out to at least be competitive against conference opponents to maybe open up the passing game.
The service academies get by with smaller OLs by running some option football. Albin has always run the option as a part of his offense. I remain surprised that he hasnât added it into the mix. My best guess is that none of the QBs are proficient at it; the QB has to wait until the last minute, and then either pitch or commit to run, and it has to be instinctive. Pitching too early, or making a bad pitch are both very bad. The option, though, in the mix, adds some wide threats, and forces the defense to cover the whole field, and not just pinch down on the inside runs.
Both offensive and defensive lines seem very small. We must have been giving up 30 plus pounds to the Cheat offensive line. Heard numerous comments about it from those at the game and watching on TV. Despite that the defense played well enough to win Saturday. The offense is just awful.
Fwiw, I had a hard time trying decide on my answer to the poll above, as there are multiple things wrong, and itâs not entirely clear to me which is the worst problem. In my opinion, the OL did do better against UNC, as neither Harrell nor Loftis were running for their life. They still werenât opening holes, so clearly the OL still needs to improve. On the other hand, most of the things in the list are also factors, I believe.
The coaches donât know the players, yet. They donât know their weaknesses or their strength who can play or who canât play. The players have never played together, no continuity amongst the lineman. It is gonna take time to establish any type of chemistry on the team. It sucks for the fans because weâve been waiting since 2013 for a respectable football program.
I wish there was an all of the above option. Doesnât appear we have the players to run this concept. Trying to remember we are only two games in. Those were a long two games.
I get all this - but thats the new world of college sports. A staff has to be able to get a team together and talent figured out before game 1. I realize maybe a normal year not changing HC we wont flip as much of the roster, but anyone that is really good is going to leave. Our staff has to be able to manage that.
Your offensive scheme against your defensive scheme is different than completely different teams. Plus other teams are bigger than ours. And weeks isnât long enough when literally every single person is brand new.
Hell, the Panthers havenât been able to figure it out for 8 years despite 23 or so coaching changes
Armyâs starting O line outweighs Charlotteâs by a very small margin
Armyâs second string O line is a very little bit heavier than the starters
Size is only part of the equation. Scheme, coordination, strength (related to size, but not in a linear fashion), attitude, etc. are just as important to a well-functioning O line
