I think our student section is overrated. Yes, I’ll give it to them that they show up for the start of games/first half but they don’t do any chants or get the vibes up in the stadium. They just stand there and chirp at opposing team nearby.

We are next to last in the league In NIL. If we want to get better that has to go up. There is no amount of coaching that can close that talent gap. I also just can’t give to it. If I’m donating money it’s going to help a kid with no food. They need to find a way to fund they besides us. That’s the biggest thing for new AD.

Albin has 3 10 win seasons. I think he can get it done. Just needs a a full off season and a deeper well. He also needs to make some staff changes. And some injury luck to go the other way.

Our students are showing up for what might be the worse fbs team in the nation. They don’t need to chant or sing at this point. The fact that they are still coming makes them elite.

I did find out the difference in the nil budgets for basketball and football that we have heard.

We aren’t maxing out the nil budget every year as the coaches are instructed to keep some available for the next cycle. So while our nil
Budget might be 2 mil we may only spend 1.5 of that and keep the extra 500 to respond to a last minute offer we can counter or have it to immediately use when opportunity arises. Makes sense now how we have heard differences in what we have from NIL pov.

I know getting to 5 next year is the unquestioned goal with a desire to get to 10 in short order.

Most of our games are over in the first half if not the first quarter. What are the students going to cheer for?

What is your source for the nil number?

You know you can’t name sources if you want to keep the source!

Fair. I’ll rephrase, it is an actual source and not an assumption, correct?

I was told by someone in the Foundation that they were trying to get some extra money last summer for the NIL and long-term donors are not giving to the NIL but to the general fund. People are having issues giving straight to the NIL in some cases, so money needs to come from different resources.

Disagree.

I’m not sure how you would quantify ā€œcrazy goodā€ but we have been losing good players to NIL and transfers every year

I think we are a ā€œtweenerā€ program. we are big enough to attract solid recruits but when they pop we can’t hold on to them.

It’s been like that in basketball and football for quite a while.

I have no idea how we can fix it other than massive NIL but that’s not gonna happen.

That’s why I support a new division for us and those like us.

Correct.

The 2 mil number and such was Just for illustration purposes. Explains why you heard one bugger number and I heard a different smaller one. We are both right it’s what the budget is and what was spent.

Go back to the Sun Belt where we belong. That realistically is where we are in football and basketball. We are not who we think we are. Be more fun to compete against Coastal Carolina and Appy Stare than Rice and Navy.

I have supported this university and athletics for a long time and will continue to. I refuse to give a dime to NIL. Paying college kids to play a game is as ridiculous as it sounds. Many of us would have loved to get the traditional experiences college players get outside of NIL. I can’t justify to my family or myself. If we lose because I don’t give to NIL, so be it.

I’d also assume that we were not spending the entire thing. Thst makes sense and I’d assume other programs operate the same way. Have you specifically heard the nil numbers for other AAC teams though?

Or, we can make a good AD hire, and fix our issues, instead of just trying to play worse competition.

Nil dollars can’t come from alum and individuals. At least right now. We don’t have 100 years of that kind of support built in. We need to leverage corporate dollars and small business investment. That’s why Mike Hill was let go. We never covered that gap. Goes back to does Gaber hire a local person with deep business ties to the community? Or bring in someone with that background that can build that partnership and fast.

Hill was perfect as an associate AD managing sports and making the athletes feel good. He was not adept/motivated to lead the program from a business perspective.

Yeah multiple people have stated we are next to last in the American with only fau behind us. I don’t know if that’s budget or spend though.

I was told 5 mil is the short term goal. They didn’t say other teams but I’d assume 5 mil is league standard

Until we bring in an American conference level QB then we will struggle in most games. Harrell will not be the answer next year. Who knows how well he will be as a runner after coming off of this injury. I would have Harrell return as a depth piece but if he’s our starter then we will struggle once again.

Someone said on here that there is a possibility that CLT is so underperforming in football it was hurting the leagues chances for teams to make college football playoffs. In fact we’re an embarrassment to be honest. The commissioner might have called the chancellor to step it up or step out hence make a major change.

We had that last year. We were competitive in a lot of games. Almost got Memphis.

then he left for greener pastures.

if we get a good qb it’s highly likely they are here one year and then gone.

Then the search starts again.

I agree with you.

Question, is Purdie on our team this year if we have Biff or Brewster as a coach? I think he would have possibly stayed 1 more season and then maybe left? He did seem very close to Biff with the Maryland connection
