It feels to me that there is a lot of angst because we are so bad this year.
It feels like if we are a mid tier conference team we will be in a better place.
I donāt think thatās out of reach after Albin has a couple of full coaching cycles to work with and maybe we donāt have horrible injury luck in future years like this year.
Rising to the top of the league without more NIL funds seems impossible though.
Itās really frustrating how bad we are but also like I legit see very very few players on this team who I want back next year that are eligible. Some players who are producing like Sean Brown, Conley, King (would have produced), Clipper will all be gone
First of all, let me preface the following with I am in no way equating our basketball program with one of the best non-P5s (and depending on the season, one of best regardless of conference affiliation).
That said, San Diego State MBB just received a $5M gift earmarked for NIL from an alum who was working as a surfing instructor when he graduated in 2010. Needless to say, heās doing much better these days.
Anyway, thatās the type of person we need. And, of course, winning helps to attract that kind of benefactor.
I think most people feel Albin is a good football coach and will work his tail off to try to turn things around. The question is does he or will he have what it takes to lead this program to be somewhat competitive in the American Conference. This league had some high profile very competitive teams on the field/court and as demonstrated we are way behind all of them in so many ways. Iām very confident we could be very competitive in the Sun Belt or CUSA which doesnāt thrill anyone but itās better than these butt whoopings we are going to be getting for a long time.
This new super man AD who we hire needs to have a ton more vision, flair, inspiration, and connections to the Charlotte sports and business community if this is where going to work in the American Conference. Mike Hill seemed like a decent person and manager but lacked the ability to influence and engage the community. He hired Biff to do that and that was a disaster
Hopefully the new AD hire wonāt be one another gimmick hire
Injuries, talent assessment, some poor play calling, thin bench, late start in recruiting and portal - all of that mixed up is what puts us where we are.
This year we should have more nil money, a better plan, a wider pool of players to choose from - if team looks the same next year this time then we know we have made a bad choice, again.
Iām not calling for anyoneās head until we have a standard off season.
So he looked good for a half against an average to below average American conference team and an FCS school so itās means he played well this year? He was 8-13 for 72 yards and 22 rush yards lol thatās decent but nothing to brag about.
Doubt weāre having much, if any, affect on whether or not an AC team lands this yearās CFP G5 spot. MW had 7 losing programs last year - including a league winless Nevada - and didnāt keep Boise State out of the playoffs. Anyway, Memphis canāt blame the Niners for what happened vs UAB. Totally self-inflicted.
We should see progress next year and substantial progress the following year in football results. By Years 3 and 4, we should see meaningful FBS wins and at least one winning season bowl game.
Build it back right and solid. In my opinion, to the maximum extent possible, the University needs to divert substantial money towards football and basketball to make up for the public perception of the losing culture manifested by Hill and his hires.
Can the University match athletic donations? Even if that means diverting funds from say our āmedical schoolā?
I also believe the University should find a way to fast track the expansion to about 25,000+\-. Beg, borrow, steal, cheat..,whatever it takes. We need a flagship that is building structure and excitement along with the progressive rebuilding of our football program. Doing so should show tangible visible progress over time. Build it big and market its progress big time.
Under no circumstances should we divert funds from academic endeavors or put any additional burden on students to further fund athletics. The students are already paying too much, especially considering athletes are now making money on top of all their free shit and the purpose of the school is education not athletics. If that means we suck so be it.
With the changes the school can directly pay the players they just need to find a new source of money that isnt our tapped out donor base, student fees or institutional funds.
Not sure about the Citadel, Charleston Southern, Davidson etc
Advantages - competition, rivalries, less travel expenses, more fans traveling to away games, generate more local interests, more time to focus on academics
Disadvantages-much less tv money, less national exposure
Ok boss. Whatever it takes is fine with me, and I have one in college and one on the way.
The reality is, our university has negative prestige when it comes to our football and basketball program. They have been an embarrassment and pungently smell of a small time university without a bright future.
Most of still believe that is not the case, but perception is really say Leary. If they want to brag about their academic achievements and future growth, it needs to be paired with athletic achievements and growth. One can benefit the other and mutually benefit the future of our University.
Whatever it takes. Limiting our options to what has beenā¦
We exist however the University chooses. The students have been progressively paying more almost every year. They donāt lower student costs of the average student. They pay coaches not to coach after bad hires and extensions.
The University system as a whole is not there just to benefit students, it is in effect in place to milk every dime it can from students. For example, they donāt mind taking $100,000 from a poor kid getting a useless degree, knowing the kid will likely a slave to student loan debt. Indentured servitude. Itās nothing honorable about providing an affordable education.
I thought most of us supported starting football because we realized what we had missed out on without it, both as students and alumni.
I agree with expanding the stadium to 25000. Perception is everything and we still look like a high school or FCS small school. The tower expansion turned out to be much less than originally presented. Seems like Hill dropped the ball on that
