Anyway, this reminds me of the latest Kentucky and Louisville men’s basketball searches. Both schools seem to have gotten the right guy but certainly got ridiculed during the process.

That’s an extremely headscratching hire, by Tulane. Hall only had one winning season at Southern Miss and that was 7-6 in 2022 and only got over .500 due to the bowl game win. No, don’t understand it at all and I’d think no Green Wave fan will either.
To be fair Tulane has more resources than Southern Miss.
Hall’s immediate full-time predecessor at Southern Miss - Jay Hopson - was 28-23 with no losing seasons and 3 bowl appearances. Of course, Hopson’s bizarre attempt to hire a disgraced Art Briles as an assistant would contribute to the former’s eventual demise as USM coach in 2020 after only one game and a crazy year that would see two different interim coaches finishing out the season after the first one - Scotty Walden - resigned after 4 games to become HC at Austin Peay.
