Itâs so cute that Vegas thinks we are going to score 7 pts.
Vegas has the score:
Ole Miss 54.5
Charlotte 7
Lol. Thatâs awfully generous.

FWIW, Ole Miss beat Georgia State 63-7 in their 2025 home opener. Chambliss played mop up minutes in that one, which, of course, wonât be the case this Saturday.
Our offense was moving it at will when our qb wasnât missing open guys. Seems conceivable we could score on Ole Miss backups/3rd string
Offense becomes less effective when youâre completely demoralized by being down 50+
Also, we were able to move the ball against The Citadel. That Ole Miss DL is a completely different animal.
FWIW.
Only good news I can come up with is they won this past week so they wonât need the style points
Yeah the expectation for them now is to get some live snaps for their 3rd and 4th string players, and thatâs what the pollsters will expect too. They wonât be penalized if they âonlyâ beat us by 6 scores.
So, I really enjoyed the scouting reports for The Citadel that A.I. generated. That is, until the game itself!
Like, I felt as if the head coach from The Citadel could have put himself up on the big screen and said, âHello, ladies and gentlemen of Jerry Richardson Stadium! I would like to tell everyone exactly what plays we are going to run. So, anyway, for this next play we intend to get Garcia the ball. Now, let me tell you which gap we would like Garcia to run towards.â And, yet, if their coach had actually done this - I really donât think it would have mattered all that much. They werenât being deceptive and their plays were openly telegraphed and they were simply daring Charlotte to stop them. And Charlotte could not.
One thing Albin said in the postgame press conference that stood out was when he said the defense was a little too amped up to start the game and then they settled in later. Iâll give Albin the benefit of the doubt and I truly believe this was a case of him not being particularly articulate after a brutal loss. NOBODY looked at the defense late in the game and said, âYeah, those players have really settled in nicely.â Albin included.
I saw a defense that was on track early. It seemed like they had some wind in their sails. Players seemed to trust each other, showed appropriate patience and appropriate attack. It was effective enough. Potential SoCon Player of the Year Quentin Hayes had some really poor stats (2 completed passes, 9 âminusâ rushing yards, 14 âplusâ rushing yards for a total of 5).
Our opponent kept humming right along. Opponents do that sometimes. Just a little bit of adversity that goes with the territory of D1 football. Also our QB blundered an interception. Again, adversity.
The adversity was handled badly. Look at some of those lowlights late in the game. Do you see a defense on track, trusting each other, etc etc? I donât. I see mentally frazzled players impatiently overpursuing and missing tackle after tackle.
It seemed like the defense couldnât get out of their own heads and move on to the next snap. QB flubbed a play? Get really really mad ⌠for a few seconds. Then go back to playing football.
So anyway:
Sorry for the wall-of-text.
One more thing and then Iâll get off my soapbox.
When I was a youngâun, there were really only a few teams who played for a bowl game. Like, USC and the Rose Bowl, for example. As far as the rank-and-file college football programs, you had your schedule with your rivals and that was basically it. Each game was kind of a self-contained event. Sort of like Pro Wrestling - the match in that very moment was really all that mattered - once the game began everyone stopped caring about W-L records.
This would be a foreign concept for a student or a recent grad - and I know this. But I never really abandoned that âold schoolâ mentality. If I asked someone with a ânormalâ mentality, they would tell me that itâs all about getting 6 or more wins. And if I asked why 6 or more wins is so important, they would tell me that they want the reward for winning 6+ games. And if I asked what the reward is that is so important, they would tell me that the reward is to watch Charlotte play a game against really good competition. Maybe win 8 or 9 games and get rewarded with being able to watch a game against a strong SEC opponent. That would be a must-watch bowl game. And if I said that they can watch Charlotte play a game this weekend against a strong SEC opponent, they will say, âNO WAY! I WILL NOT WATCH IT!â I know Iâm the weirdo with the âold schoolâ mentality but that doesnât make a whole lot of sense to me.
While I openly acknowledge my own PTSD from watching this team, it would help a lot if the games started feeling like self-contained events with importance. And not reduced to whatever they are now. One-sixth of the way on a path toward a make-believe post-season?
Itâd be much sweeter (and meaningful) if people showed up to support this team at the next home game. Any, oh yeah, Iâm hoping for a much better on-the-field product by then, too.
I look at each game as a pocket in time as well. I think we do want to watch us play against a good opponent, but we also wish we would contend in the game. I donât think the team will play well, but thatâs just a guess.
The students will certainly continue to show up until it gets too cold outside. So thereâs that
I think they are going to find a lot of answers against us.
One being, WE SUCK!!
A short time ago there were big events and watch parties for a game like this.
Does anyone even care???
I hate to admit it, but I think our program has fallen past a point of No Return. We have lost a lot of long time, hard core fans that may casually follow the program now, but even with some success, will never come back fully. Sad.. Actually, embarrassing.
All the negatives in some sports aside, I think we have a very passionate group of posters albeit a glass half empty mind set. Played basketball, graduated, and been a loyal fan for 50+ years and yes Iâve been disappointed many times. I believe and hope we have the right personal in place AD wise to be optimistic so letâs forget a lot of mud slinging and get behind financially and attendencewise and take advantage of the positives this university offers. 30,000+ students, beautiful campus, thousands of alumni, and highly ranked academicly. Whereâs the negatives?I personally am a glass half full and looking forward to the future
Sincerely Niner forever!!
