2026 Baseball Week 9: at UNC-Chapel Hill (ACCN); Rice (ESPN+)

Glad others are seeing that the bloom is off the rose. Woodard needs to be replaced. We have been weak in our pitching ever since he became head coach. We have great potential but he isn’t the answer.

Sickening

Pathetic…..how bad does a team have to be, to get swept at home by a team that was under.500 in conference before they arrived in CLT? 7 straight losses, with 4 more likely upcoming. If so, the record will go from 18-10 (3-3) to 18-21 (3-12)……..THIS team will be lucky qualify for the AC tournament.

I don’t know what has happened to our team but it is awful. Got a huge hole to dig out of now.

They’re not digging out of this…..theyre done.

I was referring to digging out to make the American tournament. That was unthinkable 2 weeks ago.

Gotcha…..very true.

Hmmm interesting

7 straight losses and no relief with the upcoming schedule.

Another tough weekend.

Too many key injuries and players underperforming to sustain any early season success.

Things have gone downhill all around since Bryce got injured. Losing the conference pre-season player of the year, especially at SS, has really affected the defense. Players are moving around to different positions to plug holes, while opening different ones.

Our pitching staff overall started out the season very strong, but has really hit a wall with conference play. We had a pretty good weekend vs USF, but we have not been good outside of that weekend. I don’t know what happened, but our staff hasn’t performed up to what we know they are capable of in recent weeks. Ultimately, that falls on the coaching staff and I’m sure they will own it, and work to fix it.

Who knows when Bryce will be back, not sure when or if Oxborrow will be back, Stricklin missed Sunday. And Carson Bayne retired about a week or 2 into his final season. Injuries happen to everyone, but it is hard to have the depth to overcome having multiple key players unavailable.

Bottom line is, we need to pitch better, and up to our own standards. Also, people are going to runt bunt ball us to death until we make them stop.

All understandable…..but this team/program has been crap against bunting teams for years. If we haven’t addressed/corrected that yet, I dont have high hopes this staff will do so…….serious question about injury updates within college baseball. Why do we (not sure if all programs are the same) NEVER release ANY information about guys injury status, outlook, etc?……very frustrating as a fan to have ZERO information on this stuff.

They don’t release it, to keep opponents out of our business. It works for a bit… but not very long.

Dawson was injured when he was hit by a pitch during the Wichita series. Actually, he tied to tough it out and was hit in the same hand a second time.

The last three weeks we have had our CF at 2nd, our 3B at SS, our 2B at 3B, and a corner OF in CF. Yesterday, we had our 2nd string freshman catcher behind the plate, our 1B at 3B, our 3B at SS, our DH at 1B, and a P at DH. That is bound to impact team defense. We did lead the country in fielding % last year, so there would need to be an explanation for such a drastic change.

All that being said, I believe that we had the ability to perform better than we have during this rough stretch. What I can’t understand is how people don’t notice these things as they follow the team. Did people think the staff was sitting the preseason player of the year based on situational matchups? Or did they just forget he was on the team?

Assuming that is directed at me…..I knew he was “missing from the team” since the first game he was out and I was watching when he got hit as I have been almost every game this year, last year and multiple years before that….……my point was, they never release any information or details about how long a player might be out or the severity of the injury, so most of us are left wondering. Most every other team sport at least gives fans some kind of update………….Additionally, I certainly have seen/noticed all the position shuffling……I also understand that EVERYONE on this team was recruited by this staff and if missing one guy (for most of this recent stretch) kills the team this much (even if he is the best player) then we have a bigger issue.

The switching hasnt hurt us, Cody has played a great 3rd and Spencer has made all but a couple plays at second. Starting outfielders have made more bad plays than they have..
Pitching is what has been so hit and miss and I never saw that coming.

You won’t hear me say that the pitching hasn’t fallen off of late. It clearly has. I will respectfully disagree about the defense though. Our current defensive alignment(s) does not make all the same plays as it previously made.

Shift !
