2026 Charlotte 49er Football šŸˆ

Good to know there is no summer portal, who can keep up with all these rules, just so I understand nobody can transfer in or out this summer?

No one can enter the portal this summer. However, there are still probably 4000 players who remain in the portal. Teams can still add players from those already in the portal. Charlotte players from last year who are, per what I know, still in the portal are CJ Stokes, Ta’ir Brooks, Cheick Kaba, Mason Bowers, Devin Davis, Aiden Martinez, Johathon Okate, Duke Guenther, Jack Davids, Aydan Cannon, and Justin Hayes.

Spring game question has been asked a lot:

My understanding is that the showcase is just a glorified practice. I could be wrong though. I’m a long way away so it’s fine with me but probably would have made it and tailgated if it was a scrimmage.

Pretty much. Pretty sure you can still tailgate though!

Just renewed season tickets. Every year it’s becoming a bigger and bigger debate in my house on whether this is a good way to spend our money. I sure hope we start giving me good ammo to use in that debate…..

Was a serious debate over here, too. Tired of watching crap football. Wife and daughter don’t even enjoy the games so I end up giving tickets to buddies. I guess it’s an investment in my friendships at this point, but another bad season and next year’s renewal conversation is going to take longer (or less time, depending on how bad it is).

If I do not renew my season tickets by tonight can I still buy season tickets but just in a different seat? Also, if I go to renew my seats tonight can I change them ?

I am interested in buying one more FSL for my kid if anyone is looking to sell one of theirs.

I’m still trying to figure out who is missing. I found a comment in the March 23rd Charlotte Observer article that says ā€œKristos Fernandez is the only returning lineman to see a start last yearā€¦ā€. That gives me a bit of info. First, since Fernandez was a R-Sr last year, I didn’t expect him back, so that means there are four players that I expected back who didn’t return. Albin’s comment that there were no returning starters at DB identifies Clinkscales, a R-Jr last year, as one of them. Since Shirley, a R-Jr last year, started 12 games at Center or Guard, he must be gone. Since Rod Green, another R-Jr last year, started against UTSA, he must also be gone. Oddly, I thought I saw Green listed somewhere as being back, but I must be wrong about that. I expected both Green and Shirley to start, so both losses hurt.

Another clue is that the March 24th article says there are 5 QBs, and mentions 4. The fifth QB would be either McNulty or Dawyot. I’ll guess McNulty is the fourth non-returning player. He was probably a preferred walkon, so if he gave up, that’s not too surprising.

I really hope green is back, but if it’s an observer article, it’s highly probable that they got their facts wrongs

I remembered where I saw Green. He’s listed in this thread as an ā€œAcademic All-Starā€ on March 6. Thus, he must be back, and the Observer must have missed the fact that he started one game. Thus, there must be someone else not returning, and I might be wrong about others, I suppose. I definitely hope Clinkscales and Shirley are back, too.

Green definitely the most important one, but Shirley definitely has potential as long as he’s at guard, not center

Without regards to the names, the coaches comments, and Rutledge’s comments, lead me to believe that this year’s line has to be a lot better than last year. After Spring camp last year, they went to the portal again, and brought in Ramil, Fernandez, and Green to upgrade the line, and even that wasn’t enough. They also hit the portal hard after spring camp for the defensive front, adding Irving, Miles, Williams, Kaba, Solomon, Simpson, and Talib.

The players they added after Spring camp were among the best on both lines, and one can only imagine how bad the lines would have been without those late additions. So far, the coaches look much, much happier…..

I’m just not going to get too excited about anything the coaches say this off season. I trust that they know what they are doing, but Albin said the strengths of the team were the offensive and defensive lines before the season started last year. And we know how that turned out. Hopefully they learned from last year and have corrected a lot of things. I’ll just need to see it on the field before I believe it.
