do we really want them to arbitrarily limit people’s income or freedom of movement from college to college?
I think we need a new division 2 where the schools commit to lowering costs, regional conferences, rev share only if there is actual NET revenue (strict accounting rules to ferret out revenue from institutional support and student fees as well as the flip side to ferret out creative accounting to limit net revenue (which I doubt will exist very often)) to actually share, no collectives, NIL must be real NIL, and academic progress must be maintained. For example if you are bouncing from college to college like a lot of these players are doing are they really maintaining progress toward a degree.
The division 2 plants a flag in the ground on academic progress, real cost accounting, etc.
Will players move up, yes, that’s fine, but I doubt it will be quite as bad, and our hands will be cleaner.
Stop relinquishing “D1”. There are a handful of schools trying to play for profit football… let them GTFO. The rest of us will stay D1. And we will not water it down any more.
I cannot remember exactly how Coach worded it, but essentially he said the market for big men was out of control this year and schools were paying big sums, regardless of how well they can play.
Wish him the best and just hoping the guys we return + add can gel and the product on the court is enjoyable to watch again.
That is everything. You do not give up the name because with it goes the tradition, etc. And yes, I think a group of 2-3 dozen schools is not going to be able to take that name away from the other 100+ programs.
My other point is that going “D2” opens this new proposed division to membership of every single FCS and D2 school. I also contend that you cannot allow those other 100 schools to be watered down like that. There will be a few exceptions (Montanas, Dakotas, etc) but that’s it.
You might be fantasizing about D2 reality. If you want to be able to see your school’s games on tv, there’s still going to be paying of players of some sort, and that payment will still vary from conference to conference. There’s also still going to be bidding wars, they just be as high as your theoretical D1 schools. And as long as players are getting paid, there will still be collectives.
Hoping the pending announcement teaser posted just after 1pm today is the exception. Usually announcement follows 1-2 hours later but here it is just before midnight, so 11 hours have passed and will be even more. Hmm…
