Along with our standard rants about changing the school name which I am in total favor of doing, I was wondering if any of you are sick and tired of our lame 49er Club? At least with the way it’s marketed. The Yosef Club, Wolfpack Club and even the ECU Pirate Club have free standing website that fully state all the ways to join, topics dealing with priority points, and how to be involved with capital projects and endowments, and much more.
Our lame information is shoe horned into our existing website. Heck even our priority points information is an old Excel spreadsheet, from who knows when, with just the years updated at the top.
Also, our levels give us nothing. I mean Green Jacket level. Ok yeah I bet it’s a nice party every year, and sure you can get a Green Jacket, but I don’t care about a green jacket blazer. Give me something else for Pete’s sake. And that lame hospitality room at halftime of basketball games. Old no fizz drinks and some potato chips thrown down on the table. Wow what a perk. But get this…donate $1,500 a year and you get the privilege to purchase a pre-game meal. Yippee!!! Look at any other club at any other school that has you at a donation level of Green Jacket and you get so many more perks.
Giving so much with no return at all each year makes the UNC-Charlotte (yeah the name ain’t changed yet) 49er Club look like an A1 rip off of the year. And before you get on your high horse about how it’s not about the donor it’s about the school. Do it for the school. Hey man I’m all for doing it for the school, that’s why I give (also it’s because my arm is twisted for football seating), and I’ll continue to give. Just give a little back that’s all.
Why not get a committee together and look at the handling of this lame club we have cobbled together and maybe look towards pushing it at least towards the 20th century?
Our AD has a pretty straightforward agenda that donors don’t mean anything to them. They can always increase the student fee subsidy, and they students won’t/can’t/don’t hold the AD accountable. The more people they drive off with there bush league level of operations is less people they answer too. I’m dropping my donation level to $49 a year just to keep what seat at the table I already do have. But they are a piss poor investment for my disposable income.
Marketing of our athletic department can for sure be better, but I don’t see that changing anytime soon. The status quo runs deep here at Charlotte and Judy/49er Club will not change unless something major happens.
I will say 49er Club has done better in terms of reaching the student body by holding that watch party in Halton and doing things like that to get the Student 49er Club out there.

I’m glad they changed the name from NNG to the Student 49er Club. That was a good move IMO.
They missed a good opportunity to overhaul the 49er Club when we started football, but pretty much left it the same. They stopped giving out media guides out to members a few years ago, so you get pretty much the same benefits whether you give $49 or $1499. Only other thing is parking for football. I would suggest that 49er Club polo shirts be offered to certain levels of giving.
They usually mail us a pair of leather embossed coasters or a yard flag once a year. The “exclusive” team shop is better than it once was (pre-2025)… but nothing special.
They gutted the Grand Slam Club benefits several years ago… at one time it had some really nice perks. I’ve heard they are talking about some changes to make it more attractive. Pre-COVID the GSC was a great way to meet the AF giving requirements for MBB & FB and still get hats, shirts, jerseys and etc. I’d keep an eye out for that if you are interested in picking up some “swag”.
The “perks” for the 49er club are laughable and it just feels like a slap in the face when you have to do the mandatory donation for season tickets. There is so much the new AD could improve on in this aspect
