Really not a fan of bringing him over from Germany and then pulling his scholarship before even playing a season
Are you sure his scholarship was pulled?
Didnât think you could do that without cause.
You can urge, tell them they wonât play, etc.
But you canât pull a scholarship as long as your in good standing right?
Some defensive transfers we have shown interest to (per Twitter/X):
Marqui Lowery Jr. - Michigan State Spartans Defensive Back - ESPN
Michigan State DB, from Charlotte. Decent freshman stats, but minimal play time the past two seasons.
Alex Howard - Youngstown State Penguins Linebacker - ESPN
Youngstown LB who transferred to Texas A&M during the winter portal window. Impressive stats last year, racking in 67 total tackes, 36 being solo.
Zachary Tobe 2023 Stats per Game - NCAAF - ESPN
Freshman Illinois DB with A LOT of potential. Weird situation as the Illinois DB coach resigned early this month due to medical reasons. Bly gave a follow, his legacy may have some pull.
If people can transfer without cause why couldnât coaches cancel scholarships without cause. Seems fair to me, but sucks for those impacted.
Scholarships are 1 year renewable. That has always been the case even before the transfer portal.
But you may get a bad rep, and have trouble recruiting if you pull scholarships after a year.
I remember that used to be the case. For some reason I thought that had been changed. Thanks for the correction!
Since the scholarship can be pulled on a yearly basis, sounds like players on schalarship are either employees at will or private contractors.
That should have a big impact on this question about them being employees or not.
Sounds like they are employees to me.
Does that stop someone from hitting the portal lets say right before conference season kicks in. Half way through year.
This is NIL recruiting now. Anyone worth much isnât thinking about scholarship recruiting anymore.
The student enrollment aspect would probably prevent that.
Without that requirement I think the conferences would have to have an anti trust exemption or the players would have to unionize.
My prediction is that the elite will benefit from the portal, nil, etc. The rest will think theyâve been caught inside a pinball machine!
Didnât the FTC just a couple of days ago say canât enforce Non-Competes? There goes that road block I was thinking of to stop this madness. If you wanted to put that in an scholarship/employment agreement.
Thatâs gone.

Charlotte Football ProgramâŚno traction everâŚjust shuffling kids in and out of UCITY
Yeah, because thats only us and nowhere else in college football.
All other programs never gain traction? They do indeed gain tractionâŚwe do not.
Thats a very vague term. Gsined traction. Its biffâs aecond year, we will see if he can âgain tractionâ recruiting certainly has
Has it?âŚ.averaging 2.5 FBS wins over the last two years & only 2 last year certainly doesnt help the situation so no traction yet.
I only said that recruiting has
