49er women picked 4th, McCallum 1st team in Atlantic 10

Congratulations to Shannon McCallum, who is a first team preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection.

The women’s home schedule is fantastic… in addition to Duke, Dayton, Duquesne, Temple and Xavier will all come to Halton Arena. They lost the opening home contest in double overtime and won 13 consecutive before the NC A&T debacle. Aston is 37-9 in Halton Arena!

I say they finish higher than 4th. McCallum has a strong supporting cast around her. Last year’s freshmen appear ready to contribute as sophomores. This should be a fun season!

They definitely have the potential to finish higher than 4th, but all three teams that polled above them deserve the rankings they received. The top 8-9 teams in the A-10 are typically very solid, so it should be an interesting year.

I have seen this group practice already. If we finish 4th in the A10, the A10 will be a great league. Got a good feeling about this team. It would be a terrific surprise to see a huge crowd opening game and Saturday after Thanksgiving against the Duke Blue Devils. Both those games are doubleheaders with the men’s team and both are on a weekend.

Stupid Coach whores picked us 4th! Whatever, haters!

I never expect Charlotte to be picked 1st - there’s a lot of anti-Charlotte sentiment in the A-10.
Stupid Media whores picked us 4th! Whatever, haters!
Coaches poll :-X

Surprised there were 2 coaches who picked Dayton to win the conference, especially since Xavier returns 2010 A-10 POY Amber Harris and Defensive POY Ta’Shia Phillips from a team that went undefeated in conference play. Reading a Sporting News preview other day that sees Xavier following up last year’s Elite Eight appearance with a trip to the 2011 Final Four.

Coaches’ top five were: 1. Xavier, 2. Dayton, 3. Temple, 4. Charlotte, 5. Richmond.
Karen’s top five were: 1. Xavier, 2. Dayton, 3. Temple, 4. Charlotte, 5. Duquesne.
