49ers in the Observer: June 7th

That’s right, I’m going to do this EVERY day (that I’m able to, ie: not on vacation w/o the internet, etc.)

Today:

And by the way, the postseason coverage of our baseball and golf teams was very nice.

It’s good to see someone with no affiliation what so ever with the Observer show their appreciation for the work they put out.

Its good to see the Observer give someone with no affiliation what so ever to them a reason to appriciate what they do.

From article:
she tied for the fifth-fastest performance in the world in the 200 meters
:wow:

I had NO idea. We have someone who could seriously bring us a National Championship. This is a huge deal. I wonder if there is a live feed for her races somewhere.

I think it’s also prudent to quote her on excellent team attitude… Says a lot about her (from article above):
Despite all of her individual accomplishments, including the All-American honors and the Atlantic 10 most valuable performer this past indoor and outdoor season, she’s more about the team aspect.

“In everything I do, I know I’m just not representing myself,” Woods said. “If I have a good time or a good placing, it’s going to say Shareese Woods, UNC Charlotte.”
Good job!

This girl is a class act and a hell of an athlete.

Man our spring sports season is AWESOME this year! :49ers:

I remember them showing a video of that record time during a basketball game. It was awesome!

From the Observer article: “Woods, the most decorated athlete in school history…”

Cornbread will never believe this.

And that is why we should all let him know.

They played that 5th fastest race she ran on the scoreboard at some point during basketball season, she absolutely dusted everybody else, it was impressive.

If she gets her 4th All-America award this week, that may never be equaled or topped here!

Ur sig is nice, but it is SO BIG. Can’t you shrink it a little… please?

Excellent idea.

You may also want to include the page where the article appears in the printed version and all that stuff too. You can also include if us almost leading the field for a few hours in a national championship event merits a one sentence blurb tacked on the end of a story about Duke Lacrosse, because that’s exactly what happened the first day or 2 of the golf championship. The Winston Salem Journal had more about us in their half page article on the Wake team when the golf tourney began.

I’ll agree with that statement, with the exception of the 1st 2 days of the golf coverage (and IMO the Observer made up for it with the later coverage).

So, no, I’m not complaining about all the stuff in Sunday’s paper.

And I really hope Shareese Woods gets the biggest headlines, regardless of how she finishes. She has definitely earned a great deal of respect. Let’s see if she gets it. Fair enough?

I bet she even likes the university, and will probably have nice things to say about it after graduation.

Ran a 23.09 to finish fourth in her heat. The top three in each heat plus the six fastest remaining times move on. She looks like she made it based on the latter.

EDIT: Jason Moore from the Men’s team advanced to the semi by running a 10.26 in his 100m dash heat.

She made it. Final is Saturday.

She made it. Final is Saturday.

:49ers:

From sports briefs:

• Charlotte’s Shareese Woods was fifth in the 200-meter semifinals (22.84 seconds) at the NCAA track and field championships in Sacramento, Calif., and qualified for Saturday’s final. Auburn’s Kerron Stewart had the fastest time (22.52).

• Charlotte 49er Jane Daniels was chosen as an NCAA Division I Coca-Cola Community All-American and will be given the award today in Orlando, Fla. The award includes a $5,000 donation in her name to the charity of her choice.

Daniels, a 4.0 biology major, was also the Atlantic 10 student-athlete of the year in cross country and track and field, the Atlantic 10 steeplechase champion and all-conference in cross country and track and will receive the A-10 Post-Graduate Scholarship. – Brett Honeycutt

Thanks Mike. Finding that information was making my pre-2nd cup of coffee brain hurt.
