Its good to see the Observer give someone with no affiliation what so ever to them a reason to appriciate what they do.
I had NO idea. We have someone who could seriously bring us a National Championship. This is a huge deal. I wonder if there is a live feed for her races somewhere.
I think it’s also prudent to quote her on excellent team attitude… Says a lot about her (from article above):

Despite all of her individual accomplishments, including the All-American honors and the Atlantic 10 most valuable performer this past indoor and outdoor season, she’s more about the team aspect.
“In everything I do, I know I’m just not representing myself,” Woods said. “If I have a good time or a good placing, it’s going to say Shareese Woods, UNC Charlotte.”
This girl is a class act and a hell of an athlete.
I remember them showing a video of that record time during a basketball game. It was awesome!
Man our spring sports season is AWESOME this year! :49ers:
Deserving of a good signature…
They played that 5th fastest race she ran on the scoreboard at some point during basketball season, she absolutely dusted everybody else, it was impressive.
You may also want to include the page where the article appears in the printed version and all that stuff too. You can also include if us almost leading the field for a few hours in a national championship event merits a one sentence blurb tacked on the end of a story about Duke Lacrosse, because that’s exactly what happened the first day or 2 of the golf championship. The Winston Salem Journal had more about us in their half page article on the Wake team when the golf tourney began.
I’ll agree with that statement, with the exception of the 1st 2 days of the golf coverage (and IMO the Observer made up for it with the later coverage).
So, no, I’m not complaining about all the stuff in Sunday’s paper.
And I really hope Shareese Woods gets the biggest headlines, regardless of how she finishes. She has definitely earned a great deal of respect. Let’s see if she gets it. Fair enough?
Ran a 23.09 to finish fourth in her heat. The top three in each heat plus the six fastest remaining times move on. She looks like she made it based on the latter.
• Charlotte’s Shareese Woods was fifth in the 200-meter semifinals (22.84 seconds) at the NCAA track and field championships in Sacramento, Calif., and qualified for Saturday’s final. Auburn’s Kerron Stewart had the fastest time (22.52).
• Charlotte 49er Jane Daniels was chosen as an NCAA Division I Coca-Cola Community All-American and will be given the award today in Orlando, Fla. The award includes a $5,000 donation in her name to the charity of her choice.
Daniels, a 4.0 biology major, was also the Atlantic 10 student-athlete of the year in cross country and track and field, the Atlantic 10 steeplechase champion and all-conference in cross country and track and will receive the A-10 Post-Graduate Scholarship. – Brett Honeycutt
