Vermont wins!!!

He beat the Marshall team captain… That defender has to sacrifice himself and take the red rather than letting the attacker go 1 on 1 against his keeper in golden goal time.

This has to be VERY sweet for them.
Congratulations!

There’s the winning goal. Like I said, the defender cannot let himself get beat here. Gotta take him out even if it’s an ejection.

FWIW, college soccer is not uniquely American.

I’ve posted before about how hard it is for American prep / HS soccer players to make college rosters. Both my boys play, so I’ve gotten to see it first hand.

Was kind of excited to see that Langan took a Charlotte Soccer Academy player. That’s not the first time. I hope he keeps it up.

But it’s not the norm. Competition with experienced euro players, not to mention transfers, makes it really difficult.

To be blunt about it - if you want your kid to go to college on a soccer scholarship, have a girl. They don’t face nearly as much competition for scholarships as those competing player pools in women’s soccer are nowhere near as broad or deep.

I think that argument for having a girl lends itself to most every coed sport. Women’s sports have never been prioritized here, and especially not elsewhere.

Fair. But are HS softball players competing against euro kids for scholarships?

Bollocks. They’ve been plenty prioritized. A whole Title just for them. Certainly here (see Judy) and elsewhere.

“Here” as in the USA and “elsewhere” as in internationally. I mean on a grand scale. For instance that pay disparity between the women’s and men’s USA soccer teams that just recently got fixed.

Club/Travel soccer are the absolute worst organizations in the USA. They sell parents a bill of goods that their kids will get schollies if you play this shit and I’ve only seen it pay off a couple of times and those kids woulda got recruited from HS anyway.

Baseball and hoops are about as bad but I rank soccer worse, probably because I just didn’t like the soccer guys to be honest.

Just for clarity, my kid played only a year of it and we sniffed that crap out and stopped.

You’re not lying. There are a few more success stories than you’re saying, but not a whole lot more.

The developmental soccer system in America sucks. It’s a wonder we get any good players out of it.

Congrats to Pilcher!!

Looks like San Diego traded up to get him.

Went through all 90 picks and AAC with 2. In addition to San Diego taking Pilcher, Inter Miami selected F Michael Appiah of FIU #82 in third round.

Is it any worse than the AAU basketball circuit?

Is that not the same thing?

The reason we don’t have good soccer players at the top level is because all the good athletes play basketball and football.

When that changes then we will have top level players.
