49ers Radio Network

A real network has finally arrived. I mentioned this on here a while back and today in the shoutbox. Stations in Charlottee, Durham, Black Mountain and Lincolnton. Its about time.

Wow, and 5 Gold Mine blogs in one day to boot!

I figured the addition of football would lead to more radio stations; Appalachian’s network pretty much reaches from Murphy to Manteo. I’m a little bummed that they haven’t added a station in East Alabama, but it’s great news nonetheless.

Our new radio stations are 290, 56, and 231 watts at night.

For comparison, 730 is 195 watts at night.

Good thing we don’t have lights at the stadium because nobody would be able to listen to our games after dark anyway.

Not really accurate. They have 13 stations, but none east of Raleigh/Durham area. Now, their flagship is much stronger than ours but their entire network was upgraded in the last 2 years based solely on their recent fball successes. Imagine where they would be (as far as a radio network) if they had never played a down of football. I guaranteee it would be no better than ours.

Now that we are FBS, improving our radio affiliate network will be VERY important:

I was never a fan of the move of games from 610 to 730. Absolutely dreadful nighttime signal as mentioned. I’ve been driving through the UCity area and points north during BB games and they barely come in.
A lot better situation than my alma mater (US school) that put their games on a Niagara Falls tourist info station running out of Canada. 2.5kW nighttime signal.
