In this Rivals article on NC College Baseball they list us as the 6th best program in the state… 6 spots behind #1 UNC-CH
We are on the way up though.
We have a hell of a team, but you cant argue that we should be higher than sixth right now. We are definitey moving up tho. In 3 or 4 years I see us being #2 or 3 on that list.

I think the problem is, a lot of people don’t realize just how terrible the A10 is in baseball. I’m pretty sure (not joking here) the American Legion team that I played on in high school could have beaten a few of the teams in the A10. We rack of tons of wins in conference play that way.
Go ahead and flog me now, but I’ve been to more Niners baseball games than probably 99% of the posters on this board, so disagree with me, but don’t say I don’t know what Im talking about.

FWIW, I’ve averaged 9-10 Niners baseball games the past 2-3 years and have a friend whose son plays at UNCW.
Coach Hibbs has a better program than UNCW, at this time…although W is better than many people think.
Can’t speak 'bout Elon.
Would probably have to agree that UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Raleigh & UNC-Greenville have better programs, at this moment.

Easy there Scotty!. I know just how “bad” the REST OF THE A10 is. I also know that that the CAA and SOCON are not exactly national powerhouses either…Also, how can you use our league against our team and then turn around and talk about how the SOCON had 6 30+ win teams…Do you not think alot of those teams wins were due to their crappy little conference?

[/QUOTE] so does that mean davidson officially sucks in basketball since socon sucks in basketball? a10 baseball is about the same as socon basketball. we dominate a10 baseball and davidson dominates socon basketball. same difference.
I’m just saying, people are amazed that Elon and UNCW is ahead of us, but they have put up some bigtime win totals in leagues that are better than the A10. No, the CAA and SoCon are not powerhouses, but they are consistantly much more competitive than the A10.

Ok, I’ll try. Just seems odd that people say Charlotte’s wins are a direct result of a weak conference but I don’t see the same said of Elon. It’s not like Elon is in a powerhouse baseball conference either.
People are saying Elon’s and UNCW’s wins are related to weak conferences because their conferences are nowhere near as atrocious as the A10.

a10 baseball = socon basketball. weak a10 baseball has been good for us in some ways. we just need to keep winning.

Chisox, I think one place your logic may be flawed is in your thinking that because the A10 is a weak baseball league that somehow that automatically means that we can’t be that “good”. Those 2 things are not necessarily linked. …As others have posted, if this is your logic then Davidson, Gonzaga and other basketball programs can’t possibly be “that good” since their leagues typically suck in basketball just as much as the A10 sucks in baseball…Do you really think we wouldn’t have won 40+ games the last few years if we had been in the SoCon or CAA? :ohmy:
I just think there is a huge difference in the 8th/9th ranked conference, and the 20th. Are we good? Hell yes we are, I’m not saying we aren’t. I just see these ridiculous win streaks we go on in the A10, 10,12 wins in a row. I just dont think we would dominate to that level in a top 10 conference. Yeah we would probably win both of those conferences, or finish second at worst, but I doubt we would have absurd win totals like we do in the A10.
the reason the A10 sucks so bad is very simple: weather. You can’t be very good at baseball when you can’t go outside until late April
thats why cali, fla, tx and the carolinas dominate the college baseball scene
we don’t need the league to be strong, we need to sched good teams like Clemson and UNC like we have, then make sure we are conf champs. The one thing we cannot afford is to ever stumble in league play, you gotta be champs every year…and we will be. Besides, facilties bring talent and we are at the tip of the iceburg getting the big time player with our new park…its just an amazing facility.
oh yeah…don’t forget the Big South…Winthrop and Coastal are as good or better that we are.
