Kansas team scores 72 in first quarter; wins 86-0

Associated Press

SMITH CENTER, Kan. – Smith Center scored 72 points in the first quarter of a high school football game Tuesday night on the way to an 86-0 win over Plainville, according to a report in the Salina, Kan., Journal.

Smith Center forced six turnovers in the first quarter as it racked up what is believed to be a record for points in a quarter by a high school team, the paper reported. The previous record was 66 by Prescott, Ariz., in 1925.

The defending state champion has outscored its opponents 640-0 so far this season, including a 69-0 win over Plainville earlier this year.

Think about how hard that is, to score 72 points in 12 minutes. Six points a minute. Even if you went for two - and converted - every single time, that is still 9 touchdowns in 12 minutes. If they got the kickoff and scored immediately, 8-0, then scored on or after all six turnovers, that is 56-0. They still needed the other team to possess the ball for three plays then punt or turn it over on downs twice to get their remaining two touchdowns.

And again, that’s only if they went for two and converted every time, otherwise you’re talking about more touchdowns, safeties, etc.

OK, now that i’ve actually read this thread. There isn’t actually a question in there.

Look at who wrote this article. “Bob Lutz.” Has Bobby left us to write about HS Football, and why would he leave Charlotte and move to Kansas when we have perfectly good football here in Charlotte?

HOLY FREAKIN’ CRAP!

Why did they only get 14 the last 3 qtrs.?

Why did they only get 14 the last 3 qtrs.?

because the coach told them to fall down at the five if it looked like they were going to score the rest of the game. They then kicked field goals on first down.
