Im not sure if you guys have heard but Charlotte is in the Atlantic 10 now? Anyway, for the past several years the A-10 has done what they call the Atlantic 10 shootout. This is a contest done at every school in the A-10 (St. Louis and Charlotte being the newbies) where the students get to show off there basketball skills for prizes including gift certificates, cash, and the grand prize of $10,000. Let me break down the contest for ya…
3 Brackets (Male, Female, and Co-ed)
2 Students per team (Co-ed is obviously guy and girl)
Students CAN participate in 2 of the 3!!!
Dots are placed on the court marking the certain ‘hot spots’ where you must shoot from. Each dot is worth a different point. (layups are 1pt, free throw 4pts, 3-pointer 8pts, etc) Each team has 30 seconds to score as many points as they possibly can. The teams with the most points will win the prizes.
This contest is open to ALL students including student athletes! Mens and womens bball teams are not allowed to participate. Sorry Alumni you are unable to participate as well!
The winners of the male and female brackets will recieve great prizes, but the winners of the Co-ed bracket will win a trip to the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conferance Tournament in Cinncinati to compete against the winners of the 11 other schools co-ed teams for a chance at $10,000.
Even if you cannot shoot a basketball or a great athlete, you should still come out. There is soo much free stuff that is going to be given away. Free t-shirts, cups, koosie’s (sp?), Nivea aftershave, xbox games, free food courtesy Buffalo Wild Wings and Smoothie King. Grays bookstore is giving away gift certificates for free books. It is going to be an awsome time and we need all NINER NATION to come out and participate! UMASS had the most students last year, but not this year!!! You can registar for the event online at:
The website should answer any questions you have as well as a diagram of what the court looks like.
or you can registar at any athletic event or just stop by the ticket office. Remember that this is a team contest so you need to have a partner in mind!
