Just wanted to give all the Niner Faithfuls another heads up to next weeks A-10 Cross Country Championships are on Charlotte’s Campus.
You can see a lot of the action from the Track Stadium as well as if you get out onto the course as they will be running through all the rec fields around the Sports Complex.
The Men and Women haven’t won a conference title in the A-10 yet and the men have only won one conference title as a whole (my 2002 C-USA championship team). The A-10 is a studly deep XC Conference and Charlotte has a great opportunity to upset favorites LaSalle and UMASS. Adu Dentamo RS JR from CLT, NC just won Athlete of the Week for the Niners after his dominating performance at last weekends NCAA Pre-National Meet where he placed 25th in 24:07 for 8,000m(5miles for the novice, that’s about 4:50 per mile aka ballin) in the toughest meet of year with several of the nations top 25 teams competing. Dentamo has a shot at the Individual Win for Charlotte which would be the first time for Charlotte in the A-10, as well as qualifying as an individual for the NCAA Championships.
Joing Dentamo will be Senior Ryan Jank, Spartanburg, SC, he’s been Charlotte’s No.2 stick since he’s seen action this fall, Ryan was a freshman my senior year when we took 2nd at C-USA and is looking to right that ship getting himself some hardware, RS JR Chase Eckard, Hickory, NC, Chase is a gamer, he’s been named A-10 outdoor track MVP, and has won several A-10 Titles within the middle distance events 800M, 1500M, 1Mile, and 4x800M. Chase was also the first person in the nation not to make it to the NCAA championships in the 800M last year being beat out by just a few tenth’s of a second. With JR Jordan Rickard and SO Dakota Lowery capping off the Niners scoring with their talent and passion these kids have a great shot at making Niner History.
The Women haven’t won a Conference title since the Mid-90’s(Pre C-USA days) but have finished Second in the A-10 recently. Richmond is a big time Favorite on the Women’s side but again Charlotte has some big time weapons with SR Aja Jackson CLT, NC (NCAA Qualifier in the 800M 2:05PR, and a 7+X A-10 Champ and medalist in various track events 800, 1500m, indoor mile/ 800, 4x800m, indoor track MVP, not to mention 3x All Conference in XC). SO Amanda Geotchius NJ, (Had a sensational FR year earning All-Conf in XC and Track, and could potentially get the Individual Win as she has been the team’s #1 runner all season) SO Keara Thomas MA, (she keeps close to Geotchius usually within 10-15 seconds giving CLT a great 1-2-3 punch if Jackson rises to the occasion).
Niner Nation, please come out in full force and show some support as Charlotte looks to take advantage of our home field turf. (I’ll be in Macon, GA with my team vieing for a championship of my own in the Atlantic Sun XC Champs)

A littel background on XC for those that don’t know how it works.
Your Top 5 Runners add up your score and the lowest score wins the Team Championship.
So 1st Place equals 1 point and 25th place equals 25 points and so on.
The best score would be 15 points for a team but that would be unheard of as each team in the conference has a great 1 and 2 runner. The battle is to get your #5 guy as a low as possible to secure your teams chance of winning.
In 2002 we went 3, 5(me:biggrin:), 6, 11, 28= 53 to win by 18 points over second place Marquette 53-71. Here’s the Scoring Sheet for you.
