OK, I wasn’t suprised to see the atrocious to date shooting %, or that we’ve been forced to shoot more 3’s than anyone else, due to defenses daring us to. Still, I’m surprised at just how many more 3’s we’ve shot than the rest of the A10 - toss Richmond out, because I’m guessing they have the same issues, given that they barely have any guards left on the roster, and, at 111 attempts, we have attempted about as many 3’s as the next two teams put together. Wow.

More disturbing IMO, is 3pt defense, not just the %, but the number of attempts - 94. That’s a ton. The book is clearly out on us - we don’t defend the 3 ball worth a darn and we cant shoot it. We do such an awful job of rotating over to shooters, and after watching Curtis yell at our guards to get in position on D, I think a lot of it has to do with being out of position to start with.

The good news is that, at that many attempts, even a small improvement in % defense could really change the pt totals for our opponents, and therefore our ability to win games.

Also, we lead the A10 in rebounding with an excellent 43+ average, which surprises me after losing Eddie. However, our margin could be a little better - I believe it’s +9.2. That’s only about 3rd in the league. Throw out the NW game though (NW 34 - Char 23 rebs), and I think the margin is much better.

The last category to be concerned with is A/TO ratio. We’re at 0.71. I’ll let you guess where that places us. This has to change. Even if we do have to shoot 3’s, we need to moving the ball around better to setup our shots. Should be piling up “cheap” assist numbers there.

The rest of the tracked team stats dont show any glaring strengths or holes. We are just about dead last in shotblocking, but a single player makes such a difference there. We’ve held our own in the steals category to, despit not having Eddie, but our overall TO margin is +/- 0.0, which is worse than last year’s margin.

NA, I’m not sure the 49ers have really shot that many more 3-pointers than the other A-10 teams.

Attempts per game ranking (Shooting percentage ranking)
1 (11) Richmond, 7.0 made, 24.7 attempted
2 (13) Charlotte, 5.4 made, 22.2 attempted
3 (3) Temple, 8.3 made, 19.7 attempted
4 (4) Dayton, 5.8 made, 19.7 attempted
5 (2) Saint Bonaventure, 8.0 made, 18.7 attempted
6 (1) Saint Joseph’s, 8.0 made, 18.3 attempted
7 (6) Fordham, 6.0 made, 16.8 attempted
8 (10) Massachusetts, 5.0 made, 16.7 attempted
9 (12) Duquesne, 4.5 made, 16.5 attempted
10 (5) Xavier, 6.0 made, 16.0 attempted
11 (7) George Washington, 5.5 made, 16.0 attempted
12 (9) Saint Louis, 5.0 made, 16.0 attempted
13 (8) La Salle, 5.0 made, 14.5 attempted
14 (14) Rhode Island, 3.3 made, 14.3 attempted

Considering the margins they have been behind in games, they are likely not shooting the the 3-point shot more than the other teams in the top half.

Let me be the first to welcome you to Charlotte basketball. Our coach is named Bobby Lutz and we shott 3’s, lots of them. We don’t play any other offense, even if we do have highly talented power forwards. In fact, we like them to get out of the paint and shoot the 3 as well.

As for the book, we never, ever defend the 3. That book is as aold as the Bible.

We are Charlotte. Get used to it or demand a new coach. Again, welcome to the board.

I would like to add that over the past 7 season or so we have had teams that defend the post very well. We’ve also been good on the defensive glass, however this team has never hit the offensive boards very well (a lot of that due to all the long rebounds from so many 3’s) and we have never EVER defended the perimeter.
