I think that the offensive game played last night was what Bobby’s been dreaming of since he’s been here. I saw an inside game being the first option with the threat of 3-4 guys on the floor being able to hit the three. Memphis’ defense was hesitant to switch and double team which forced single coverage at the basket.
Plavitch was so effective as a decoy last night. He had a Memphis guy in his jock 35 feet out which cleared the driving lanes and the middle. It’s nice to have the personnel to play this way because it makes a defense picks it poison. They simply could not stop Curt or Eddie.
Free throws. Sheesh.
On at least three occasions, Barclay got rebounds 3-feet in and then dribbled out of the lane to set up the offense. I could understand if one of the shorter guys were to do, but you’re a 6’8” senior. He’s got to take that back up.
Kummer. What a bad ass. I had a History of Sports in America class with him and he killed me talked about talking smack to the Russian team they played in a scrimmage. “They didn’t understand a word I was saying, but they got the gist”.
A four-way tie for first is possible. UL would have to lose to Depaul and Memphis while beating us.
Depaul would have to win out. Charlotte would have to lose to USM or USF. The winner of the Memphis-Cincy game would be the forth. If Memphis were the 4th team, they’d be the one seed, followed by Charlotte, Depaul and UL. If Cincy were the 4th team in, UL would be the one seed, followed by Charlotte, Depaul and Cincy.
While I know this point is moot, I think Charlotte clinched at least the 4 seed even if we lose out. Memphis v. Cincy will give someone their fifth loss(and the 5 seed) and in that situation we hold tie breakers over both of them.

I commented to my friend about the exact same thing. A couple of those times, he could haev simply gone back up for an uncontested lay-up, but for some reason, passed it out of the post....And after the first 3 times he didn't do anything once he got the ball inside, it was fun to watch Duane Irwin shimmy and shake and then pass the ball out again.

Absolutely. It’s beautiful to watch. I love the balance.

I’m glad someone noticed this. Coach had a tough choice last night with whether to play Leemire or Plav. When he played Plav, they’d try to iso someone like Hunt or Rice on him (both taller & faster). Fortunately, that didn’t happen much, but Lutz did make the sub anyway. When he did, memphis packed it in on D, I swear I even saw what looked like a zone, and we didnt go inside to Curt as much.

That one in the 2nd half, where he could have easily turned and dunked… the guy behind me screamed “[wtf?] that looks like something I’d do”…

Awesome. He was such a scrapper. Hope he’s enjoying being home again.

Let’s just take care of business on our end. technically, we’re in the driver’s seat. Win out and CUSA is ours.
We need to finish strong when we take it inside. Too many shots didn’t fall after the foul or in some cases it looks like we give up after the hack and settle for two shots.
I want to see Curtis take it to the rack with authority, shedding players like they were Lilliputians dangling off Gulliver after he wakes up and stretches.
Man, there’s a sports page cartoon image if I ever pictured one. Curtis going up for the monster jam with lttle Tiger players dangling off the hems of his uniform.
Has anyone ever noticed that when Curt is going up for a put back or a close-up shot he typically never attempts to use the backboard (especially if he is right in front of the basket).
I have never understood why he doesn’t try and take advantage of the glass vs. just attempting to lay it in…

Re: #2, he was a great decoy. We also set a few decent screens for him and one play - the one where BP missed an open 3, Eddie got the rebound and dished to Nance for the dunk (who was fouled, but it wasn’t called) was a great play. Had BP run around 2 screens just underneath the FT line and pop out at the extended FT line for a wide open shot. Great play.
Re: #4, if Barclay puts up those shots, he is probably fouled. Take away our 6 FTs at the end and add those in and the FT numbers are closer than they were. Why the Memphis fans aren’t berating Barclay (instead of the refs) is beyond me.
I gotta give Coach huge props for his decisions last night - pulling BP and putting in a quicker defender was absolutely the right call as was putting Eddie on Washington. Great in-game adjustments.

I thought we played really well and kept our composure after getting down by 10 in the second half. That was nice to see. The “incident” had a lot to do with getting the team and crowd fired up (although we had cut it to 4 by that time). But we really didn’t play well in the last few minutes. Curt picks up a stupid fourth foul on the inbounds play (did anyone see Bobby throw his clipboard after that? )… Eddie’s turnover after our offensive rebound (Gary said that the ball actually hit the rim and the shot clock should have been reset there)… Missed free throws, (especially the two by Mitch)… the foul on the 3 point shot (no way that was a foul by the way…but Mitch apologized to the fans and said he shouldn’t have been so close). It was nice to see us pull out a win against a good team without our “A” game though.
