clt is a dua lipa fan, apparently she sings?
I think it’s easy to be quite dismissive of modern music but I wouldn’t compare it to fashion.
In fashion you kind of are forced to purchase the environmentally unfriendly materials because they’re more affordable. Clothes that are less affordable may not last as long but because they’re cheap, they’re also easier to maintain.
For music, it’s all out there and the same price. I think a lot of people’s music taste is shaped by what their parents listen to and what they experienced in their childhood. You may not remember these songs 20 years from now, but the teenagers listening to it will. Just the same as the teenagers today don’t remember John Coltrane or the Allman Brothers.
It’s one of those things that are truly subjective. Except of course the album Musick to Play In The Dark by the band Coil. That shit is trash.
Somebody That I Used To Know is an excellent example of how sampling can be done to create an all new song. Hell just about all of Gotye songs are sampled from somewhere.
If you hate autotune then for the same reason you should hate fuzz pedals and Electric Light Orchestra.
To quote “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” - “that don’t make no sense “.
Wasn’t familiar with Coil though after a visit to Wiki see I am aware of some of the individuals and bands they influenced.
Their cover of “Tainted Love” is definitely different!
Yeah I found out about them from a clerk at Lunchbox Records. The cover you mention certainly is interesting.
The album I referred to is an example of something I should have listened to before I purchased it haha.
Could not recommend listening to the full song Broccoli more. One of the most hilarious songs I’ve ever heard
Thanks! Did listen to a snippet of the opening of Musick et al and will do same with “Broccoli” as well.
Haha there’s reason to believe there should be a lawsuit incoming
Unrelated. But to cleanse yourself with a really good song I found this a couple months ago. It’s a beautiful rendition of the classic Gilbert O’Sullivan song.
I didn’t know about this thread before tonight but I sure do love talking and sharing music.
This is a band based out of Italy. It’s jazz-fusion type. The songs with singing are done from collaborators. With the exception of Gelbi all the songs are sung in a mixture of Italian and Neapolitan. If the first song doesn’t hook you then I don’t know what will.
Just finished this documentary on Prime… Really well done.
Never understood why they were not bigger in the US
Oh that looks good. Just added to my watchlist.
Just watching an interview with Flick in which he said he got paid $15 for the Bond theme session.
Also recounts the story about singer Shirley Bassey removing her bra in order to hit the final high note on the Goldfinger theme!
BTW, one of the session players for the film’s soundtrack was some guy named Jimmy Page.
