Needed a break from all the football (and some crappy hoops) today and came across the Connells from a concert they performed at Sonark Studios in Hillsborough last year and broadcast on PBS North Carolina. Hadnât thought about the Raleigh indie band in like forever!
Wow. I had no idea they were still together and playing.
I still have my Fun n Games T shirt somewhere. Itâs mostly disintegrated.
In the early 90s on any given day you might see a dozen of these shirts just walking across campus. They were crazy popular.
I also still love that song. That whole album. Hell, their first several albums really.
They were such an underrated band at the time. They had so many bangers.
Hereâs a bit of a crash course if you like their sound:
Pretty sure The Black Keys used the same riff on the song Baby Iâm Coming Home
Anyways hereâs an unrelated song.
Thank you for the Connells rabbit hole manâŚ
I know there were waaay more popular songs by them, but man did I love this one. It was one of those deep album cuts that kept me coming back.
Count me as one of those who doesnât quite understand what constitutes âYacht Rockâ and how bands etc are selected for inclusion in that so-called genre.
clt says yacht rock is a vibe
My fav member of Fleetwood Mac even before Buckingham Nicks joined and âruinedâ the band.
RIP Ms. Perfect
Sadly, Bryarâs death is reminiscent to that of Layne Staley.
Never ever figured why he had a Comeback Special. Donât think he ever went down to the extent warranted a comback
Not a big Elvis fan though I can tell you exactly where I was when his death was announced in 1977!
In all seriousness, by the time of the so-called comeback special in 1968, Presleyâs last top ten hit was in 1965 and actually a song he recorded in 1960! Plus the foray into film was mostly a dud save Viva Las Vegas - which, like his last hit record, came in 1965.
BTW, his 1968 movie Speedway - filmed at CMS - is a guilty pleasure for me. Especially the unrealistic depiction of stock car racing - like Elvis opening the door to his race car instead of having to climb through the driverâs side window! And, of course, all the singing!
Interesting tidbit about Speedway - originally meant to be a flick starring Sonny & Cher!
