Alonzo Gee - 2005

Top 138 players in Florida

Gee is listed #3 overall and Kyle Marx is listed at #22

Gee was rated the 7th best player in his class in the nationof all the kids that played in the 3 camps in Vegas last week. His stock continues to soar. Hopefully we will benefit from Florida already accepting 2 commitments from wing player, though Gee appears to be much better that both of them.
This wil be a very interesting recruit to follow.

From rivalshoops.com experts message board (7/28/04):

Jerry Meyer: I saw him and talked to him in Vegas. he listed Florida, Alabama, Charlotte, LSU, and Maryland. He is very good. Stock is on the rise and ranking should go up. Great body, solid skills and athleticsm, and what really gives him the edge over other prospects is that he can shoot the ball very well from three. Jerry

Justin Young: Gee has been a hot commodity after his showing at several July events. His AAU coach told me that Miami, Georgia, Memphis and UCLA have also shown substantial interest.

Good to see his ā€œlistā€ has been narrowed down a little(even better that we are still on it). Florida is probably only on there because he’s from there, it just doesn’t make sense based on the guys they already signed. Hopefully we have an edge over the others by starting recruiting him so early and having Goldwire here(I can image Goldwire telling Gee and Marks to come up here so they can try to rule the A10 like they did their old high school conference, that would be really intersting to have 3 guys from the same high school).

Definitely the most important guy for our 05 class, will be a huge boost or blow depending if we land him or not…

I think our worst case scenario is playing out. The summer tournaments make or break a lot of kids and Gee played this out perfectly and definitely ā€œblew upā€ too early for our liking.

The list that started out as Charlotte, WVU, and Marshall with Charlotte leading definitely looks a lot different now.

Lefty, I know you stated that Gee would share the 3 with Alexander with Beasly at the 2 but from everything I am reading and hearing this kid sounds like a big time 2G to me.

Heres hoping that the Goldwire influence pays off. Goldwire and Gee in our backcourt would be a nice combination for many years to come.

TSD, Beasley graduates in 08, right? Did you mean someone else like Michael Neal?

Rivals lists him as shooting guard/small forward at 6’6" 205. I figure Withers will have to move over to ā€œcenterā€. That leaves 120 minutes (2, 3, 4) for Alexander, Drayton, Gee, Neal. 30 each. We don’t need 6’9" and better across the back in the A-10.

Sorry NLP I did mean Neal.

I hope Withers does not have to move over but it is looking that way. If we have Gee, Neal, Drayton, and Alexander that is a lot of firepower but all too small for the 4 and also too small with Withers at the 5. I agree it would be o’kay for the A-10 but I am hoping for more after the A-10(Big Dance).

The Iti situation is really starting to sink in and piss me off. If he is done then it was a wasted scholarship and an opportunity lost on other big men that could have come in this year and helped us more.

We always seem to end up undersized and out of position across the frontcourt. The Spooner tradegy and the Iti sham really has hurt us. This year’s team with Spooner and Iti would have to be very close to a top 25 team. If Nance gets hurt(a lot of injuries in his career) then we will be small and thin along the frontcourt agin.

I do draw some hope from the Tulsa team a few years back that was coached by Bill Self. They were only 6’4to 6’5" across the frontline and wore us out in December and I think made it to the Elite 8.

why does everybody keep saying iti isnt coming back. where is he gonna go. if he wants to go to the league after this year he isnt going to transfer and hes not going to the nba yet and i dont think he wants to go to europe.

Well, here’s a good reason for saying it…

Martin Iti and Jermaine Bell (right), two well-traveled and talented centers, put their names into the 2004 NBA Draft pool. But after their names were passed over, the two big men were left to look for other options. One NBA scout chimes in about their decisions and how it could help their draft stock.[/b]

i guess i was wrong.

Gee now has offers from: Florida State, Maryland, Charlotte, Alabama and Florida. Also says Ga. Tech is showing high interest and that UCONN has been scouting him as well…

AAGGHHH!!!! Leemire, tell your friend to quit screwing around with these other schools and sign with the NINERS!!!

Gee article on Rivals today. Lists him at 38th now. Says no one stands out at all, but mentions we were the only ones who knew about him before the summer.

Metions style of play, early minutes as important, but says environmnet is tops. ā€œYou gotta like the coach man, that’s what it’s all about.ā€

I’d interject more, but the article is all jacked up with chinese symbols on this computer. I don’t feel like deciphering today. My gut is steadily declining on us getting him.

ā€œEven with the national attention and free educations on the table, Gee said he is in no hurry to make a decision or any visits – officially or unofficially. He said he will take the first SAT test available and then go from there. According to sources close to Gee, coaches are trying to get an early commitment but Gee said that won’t happen any time soon.ā€

ā€œI don’t have a top school,ā€ Gee said. ā€œIt’s open. I just can’t say one school stands out.ā€

I think that is the sound of the train leaving the station. I hope I am wrong. I believe he is still fishing and those are some mighty big fish coming around.

We have gone from top school to also ran. I think if we were in a better position then he would have given us a slight lead because we have been on him so long and early.

Unfortunately, I agree with you here. Our best hope was that we would hold some advantage from starting early, but with ā€œno one having any advantageā€, it’s not looking all that good.

The best thing I can say is that we are still on his list. I forget the exact teams, but his original list was something like ā€œCharlotte, WVU and Marshall.ā€ Well at least we are still on his radar as he seems to have completely dismissed the other two.

I’m not giving up all hope on him, but not holding my breath on him coming here.

ā€œI talked to Gee today and he says don’t count the Niners outā€¦ā€ Jason Jordan

Florida State, Maryland, Charlotte, Alabama, LSU, UCLA and Florida have all offered Gee, but if he wants playing time you can count out most off these schools except for Florida,Charlotte,Alabama, and Connecticut(if they offer). Because most of those schools brought in some good shooting guards. Living in palm beach county if Charlotte gets Gee, with him playing with Goldwire in the same backcourt it will help him and make his transition to college easier.

Goldwire & Gee in the backcourt?

That is a pleasant thought. Here’s hoping it happens. B)
