Hamilton helping GW get ready for season
Thursday, Sept. 30: Detroit Pistons wing Richard Hamilton spent the past two weeks playing pickup games with George Washington at the Smith Center in D.C. The Colonials are holding their own with Hamilton as they prepare for their run toward an A-10 title. The games with Hamilton are helping J.R. Pinnock, who looked like the Colonials’ most productive wing Wednesday. Forward Omar Williams (foot surgery) should be back by Oct. 16. GW scheduled a scrimmage against Villanova. Coach Karl Hobbs wanted 'Nova because he sees its guards as a good prep for the opener at Wake Forest in the Preseason NIT Nov. 15. Meanwhile, GW is irked it drew Wake while other first-round games exist like Quinnipiac-Penn and American-VCU. The answer? The NIT admitted it didn’t know how good GW was this season while ESPN wanted a marquee tipoff opener for the network and possible No. 1 Wake. … Georgetown coach John Thompson III said he has no problem playing GW and Maryland but doesn’t want to schedule coaching friends at Princeton, Air Force and Northwestern. GW hasn’t played G’Town since 1982. The Hoyas need another home game after Albany dropped them.
