Another day, another Observer hit job on football

I dont feel like retyping it from the shoutbox:

NinerAdvocate: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/07/19/1570801/dubois-hike-in-uncc-tuition-prevents.html
NinerAdvocate: I am getting really fed up with this bullshit. This is another shot at the football effort.
NinerAdvocate: Nevermind that while our costs are going up $708, UNCCH’s are going up $1,037
NinerAdvocate: That’s buried, along with the investigation story that they’re now trying to blame on Spurrier/USC
NinerAdvocate: We actually have the 3rd lowest increase of all the schools discussed, and if I read that right, that’s INCLUDING the football fee

This is the second time they have run this story. It was also posted on Friday.

I understand your frustration NA but it’s the last gasp of a dying effort on their part. Plus they have an editorial bemoaning the fact that the state legislature didn’t fully fund UNC this year. They have this as a dovetail for that editorial. If anything shows the bankrupt journalistic credibility of the O it’s the fact that they recycle 3 day old articles. They don’t even have the nerve to directly attack football in the article. It’s more like a glancing parting blow from a defeated enemy.

I can guarantee you that tehre will be several editorials this week after Bev signs the bill.

I don’t know why I found this post so funny, but I LOL’d at “It’s more like a glancing parting blow from a defeated enemy.”

Thanks for making my morning Mr. Stanton.

Haha nice.

They lost the battle. Don’t think they’re done yet. There’ll be more skirmishes: about what conference we do or dont join, when we upgrade the stadium, whatever financial gripes they can raise (expect an article on the cost per attendance or win or etc), and heaven help us if one of the scholarship athletes does something stupid… all of it will be payback time.

We’ll just have to pound the shiite out of them again. We’re all experts at refuting the O and its beaotch fully of dumbass posters by now anyway.

Football staff salaries will be paid for by the state, correct? That will be their next angle. Cutting professors but adding football salaries.

Yes but that is a horse of a different color.

Man, all kinds of stupid on the comments to that article. No one had a response to NA’s well spoken statement, just more ridiculous “blame Obama!” and “UNCC students are stupid” remarks.

The comment section on the O isn’t where this fight should take place, how about the next time we have Wilson and FNR covering the Niners we devote a segment to ripping the Observer and the tarhole-ganda.

clt says this is the perfect illustration of why he despises the observer so much.

clt enjoyed nothing more than canceling an observer subscription ( which was paid by usairways miles) and going on a rant about the observer, unc-chap and how they treat the school with the largest number of alumni in the region. the poor staffer said she would note clt’s concerns.

The Observer and its “selective reporting.” It’s pretty bad when the tar hole football story hits ESPN before it does the Observer, when the Observer prides itself on being a “regional” newspaper and providing as much coverage to the holes as they can.

Hey now. In defense of the Observer they did run daily articles for 3 weeks in a row about why Butch Davis deserved a raise.
