According to UNCW beatwriter Brian Mull of the Wilmington Star-News, Hurricanes-transfer Antoine Allen has Charlotte on his list of possible destinations (also inludes Arizona, Marshall, and UNCW). He’s a 6-1 SG out of Baltimore who prepped in Mississippi. Played in 17 games for the Canes, averaging 2.9 ppg (41.7% on 3s). Will have 3 years after sitting out 2010-11.
originally played HS ball in Baltimore at Lake Clifton. Finished up at Mississippi Elite Christian Academy. One time commit to Providence, backed out and went to Miami. Also had offers to Kentucky, FSU & Virginia.
BTW, the Sun mentions he had offers from Miami-FL, Providence, UVa, Florida State, and UCF, but nothing about Kentucky. Just have a hard time believing Calipari offered Allen a schollie. Hmmm…
Moss, I was commenting on his high school offers. Also dubious of any current offer from Arizona, especially after UA self-sanctioned itself earlier this year, including a loss of a scholarship for the 2011-12 season - the year that Allen would be eligible to play! Yes, UK may have been interested, but it would have been pre-Calipari and if an offer had been made by Gillispie (which I haven’t been able to find), then Cal rescinded it.
Not saying he won’t flourish at a different location. Just not buying the spin!
Antoine Allen would be a good get for us. Solid but not great. Tough as nails and can play both positions. He would give us a backcourt rotation that could compete with anybody in the A10. Also a good kid and good student. Hope we can get him. I am not sure new staff will go after him hard enough though. We (Baltimore) have one of our own Kevin Norris coaching at UNCW now and he will attract alot of our talented guards. Duece gives us a great draw in that many of the best in Baltimore want to play with him. I hope the new staff uses that recruiting edge. Baltimore is loaded with high major 1,2’s and 3’s.
We took DeMario Mayfield. :o What the difference?
i didnt think we should take him either. taking two bcs rejects would be twice as bad.
I think he would be a solid get. Miami had tons of athletic talent and a 3star athletic guard that we would have for 3 yrs is something we should jump all over. We’ve gotta have faith in Coach Major until we’re given a reason otherwise.
our last acc “reject” might have been our best player.
he was not an acc reject. he transfered because of family issues. he was starter and averaged good numbers. i dont mind a transfer from an acc school, just not one who didnt play.
miami sucks and why take a former three star player who has already proven he cant play at a high level when we could go get a terrance williams or that kid from georgia? there is too much talent in the 2011 class to settle for kids like this.
