Any Duke Energy/Wells Fargo or Bank of America insiders out there?

If so, please suggest/ask/beg those in authority at your companies to have the lights on your uptown buildings be GREEN the night of our b-ball game with Tennessee on 12-17. I drove through town the other night and thought how cool it would be to have those buildings representin’ the NINERS that night. They do it for the Panthers, so why not for us ONE night at least when we play uptown against a current national power? Maybe you O writers out there could also kindly suggest this too. Just askin’.

The building I work in always has a green top.

The Duke Energy Center will be no problem to turn green. It has LED lights that can change to any color on the spectrum. There is little chance BoA turns green. They have to change the lights. It’s a very expensive and lengthy process.

I believe Childress Klein manages the Duke energy building. If so, I know a couple of people who work there, in the special events area. I’ve put in an inquiry.

Ask and you shall receive.

They are in the engineering group at Childress Klein. Don’t bombard these guys or be rude. Ultimately I believe Wells has to agree to the lighting. But these guys should be able to get the ball rolling. I’d try to emphasize the connection of the University to the city, the same way it is with the Panthers. For all I know, these guys could be Tenn fans. So it would be best if we can make it connect with the city, not just I think it would be cool because it is my team.

Thanks for your efforts. Just a comment: “my team” is the CHARLOTTE 49’ers. These buildings are in CHARLOTTE. Most cities/businesses in cities support the home town school/team in ways such as this. Should be a slam dunk even if they are TN fans, THIS IS CHARLOTTE!!

I’m at the bottom of the totem pole. :’(

Well, all I do is pay Duke Energy at LEAST $100 every damn month like I have for 39 freakin’ years STRAIGHT. Y’all do the math, and the Duke E, turn on the GREEN lights December 17th!!

well as of now you have paid a total of $46800 in electricity bills for the last 39 years, which is less than 1% (or .000377%) of what Duke energy made in total revenue for 2010 (as of march 2010).

That’s why monopolies are sooo lovable. They have a way of making one feel sooo insignificant.
Don’t want to get off topic and get this thread bumped to Ramblings, so I say again: DUKE ENERGY AND WELLS FARGO, TURN ON THE GREEN LIGHTS DECEMBER 17th IN SUPPORT OF THE CHARLOTTE NINERS VS TENNESSEE, PLEASE!!

The government usually regulates the prices they can charge if they are the only provider.

I now live in Maryland/DC area where energy was deregulated a few years ago. It was promised it’d bring prices down because of competition, but it also took away government regulated prices. Energy rates have gone up 72% in the last few years.

Duke has some of the cheapest power rates in the country.

I UNDERSTAND the necessity for SOME monopolies, it’s the screwyouness of them I hate.

Passed by the Duke Energy Tower early this morning and it was lit green. I took a cell phone shot of it…

Awesome! I have the phone number for an “insider”, but I’m still working on my request speech. Soon.
Thanks for the pic. Now we know for sure they can do it. They need to do it the night of DECEMBER 17th.

They were doing that because the building won its LEED Platinum certification today.

Excellent. I think I just got an idea on how to lead into my request. "Hey, congrats! I just read in the Charlotte Business Journal that your building was just awarded the LEED Platinum Certification. I also noticed you celebrated by lighting your building this morning in GREEN. It looked great!! Hmmm…some fellow UNC Charlotte alums and I were wondering if…"
I’ll keep y’all posted.

I just emailed our request to the appropriate party. Stand by. ;D

The old Two First Union building, often referred to as The Jukebox, used to light up the arched glass roof green back in the 90’s when that was First Union’s official color. Maybe we can get them to do it, too. Childress Klein also used to manage that property. Probably still do.

I’m sure you’ll hear back with something along the lines of, “We would be more than happy to support UNC-C with our colored lights, but why green instead of your usual light blue?” Or “UNCC has a basketball team? Are they division one?”
