anybody going to see KJ Sherill @ East-West All Star game?

Great coming out party, for Niner historians you know who else had a coming out party at the NC all star game: Answer Jarvis Lang. I think he went like close to 100% from the fg% and coach k left the game saying he was the best player he had seen in the state.

So did Cedric Maxwell, I'm pretty sure.
Good to see such quality coverage on a local team by a local newspaper. With KJ & Spears both on the court for us the next two years on-line readership of the Salisbury Post might go up.

I’ll be checking it out because I have a feeling they’re gonna be supporting their hometown player.
i went to see k.j. tonight in the east west all star game in greensboro. here is my evaluation. k.j. looked great. he lead all scorers with 19 points. he had several rebounds, probably at least 12 and probably four or five blocks. you must first understand that the west team which k.j. was on was far superior so that took pressure off him but he appears to be physically strong, an excellent rebounder, and a very good shot blocker. he goes for rebounds and attacks the boards after missed shots which is something that our team has trouble doing sometimes. he had two or three dunks, although he missed one. he is a very good defender on both the perimeter and on the inside. he probably could have been called for a few fouls that the refs didnt call but he also got fouled on two shots that the refs let go so it evened out. he definitly is an intelligent player and knows where to be on the court at all times and definitly hustles. the one thing he definitly needs to work on is his touch on the inside and i would have liked to see him take some jumpers but he wasent getting fed the ball enough. it is still hard to evaluate him because he was bigger than the guys he was going against but he appears to be physically ready to play division one basketball. he is a little undersized at 6’7" for power forward but he does have long arms and is a good athlete so i dont think it will be that big of a deal. this game was pretty one sided in the west’s favor. other players of interest in this game were wakefield ellison who is going to ecu. this guy is a steal for ecu. good size and an excellent three point shooter. keith randelmen who is going to unc-wilmington. very athletic and had some highlight reel plays but needs work on ball handling. c.j. harris who is going to wake forest. very good ball handler, quick and can shoot. the mvp for the game was michael grace who is going to yale. this kid, although undersized, was really good. very quick, very good passer and an excellent shooter. i was also impressed with kyle gaillard who is going to william and mary. he had a monster jam, and is a very good ballhandler. jaron lane, who is going to unc asheville, also played in the game. he had a decent number of points but he was playing for the east so nothing really stood out. a game like this really shows you the difference between a kid going to a school like presbyterian and a kid going to wake forest or charlotte.
Seriously, 1200+ posts and you have some great first-hand impressions to see, but can you please use the enter key every now and then? I try not to be a member of the grammar police here but quality posts like this are 100 times more readable with some white space mixed in…

Good sign Sherrill had a nice game, based solely on stats it’s hard to see how he wasn’t MVP. I think a lot of us are overlooking him due to our excitement over Spears, Braswell and Bowden, but it sounds like Sherrill can really play, he should contribute right away for us.

FYI -This game is now on Carolina On Demand on TWC. Based on what I saw he will see minutes at the 4 position and maybe the 5 if we have foul trouble. He runs the floor pretty well and has good hands. I think he needs some work on the offensive end. I also agree with a previous poster that said he needs to work on his touch around the basket. I could easily see him developing into a Curtis Withers type of player if he works hard.

AWESOME! Watching right now

I see why Grace won the MVP. he scored the record setting basket and he shot the ball ridiculously well. His pull up jumper in traffic is scary good. Going to Yale too, so he’s probably pretty bright too.

Sherill was very consistent. Dominated the boards when he was in and used his body to great advantage. He didn’t have the wow factor to win the award, but played a very solid game.

He still reminds me of Withers though I don’t remember him shooting the ball from outside at all. I really like his energy. He gets after it, with good body control.

Both players…Shamari graduated from Salisbury High School and we have already had the pleasure to see how well the Post coveres KJ. It’s going to be great having a town like Salisbury get some excellent exposure to Niner Basketball. Hopefully we will pick up some new fans along the way.

These were high school kids, but very good ones. KJ looked like a man among boys out there. As mentioned he was strong on the boards and scored a lot of close-in points, but he had one break-away where he dribbled the length of the floor and slammed it. He looked pretty controlled coming down the court. It gives me hope.

I've always thought we should focus more on Concord, Salisbury, etc. Downtown Charlotte, etc. is almost a lost cause.

I agree, an easy drive and it seems like someone living in a town like Salisbury, Kannapolis or Concord would enjoy the opportunity to watch D-1 basketball in a facility like Halton. You are only looking at 5 minutes and a couple of turns off the interstate. Hopefully we have the wins this year that entice them to visit and they come back often…

Shamari didn’t graduate from Salisbury High. He played 2 years at Salisbury High before going to the Blair Academy in NJ for more exposure.
