Are the Jamaicans doping?

Just been following the track and field World Championships in Berlin (on www.universalsports.com), and it’s amazing to me how dominant the Jamaicans have recently become in the sprints. The men are pretty extraordinary, but I’d say the women are a little too powerful (just check out their shoulder muscles when they get into the blocks, unreal physique for most women sprinters). Nowadays, this leads me right to wondering if they’re using steroids.

On top of this, apparently their testing regimes run by the Jamaican national organization are a joke (no random testing, very little testing done offseason). Victor Conte of BALCO infamy, not exactly the greatest source, has basically said their testing program is designed to provide cover for athletes, not catch them using p.e.d.s (see: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/2008olympics/2008/08/18/2008-08-18_conte_world_antidoping_agency_needs_to_b.html#ixzz0OZHGMjwr)

Frankly, I’m pretty cynical after the whole BALCO scandal, given that Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery, both track stars, and Montgomery with the former world record in 100m, never tested positive once. I’m guessing the athletes and sports doctors are way ahead of the testing.

It also makes me wonder why so many professional baseball players get caught. Stupidity?

:lmao: when did they stop?:lmao:

…oh…you meant roids?

I’m sure drug abuse is rampant. Heck, even a South African runner is being tested to find out if she is actually a female and not a male.

Maybe they just stop smoking weed, so they remembered to show up for track practice. Though I’ve heard it improves recovery time (and not just from the stoned guy at the party…).

19.19 s! That’s just crazy. Bolt just smoked a fast 200m field and took another 0.11 off his world record. Even if he’s doping (and I think he along with many others in these races probably are), that’s unbelievable.

Usain Bolt has the best name in sports ever.
