Athletic Brand Affiliate

We are affiliated with Nike and have been for as long as I’ve been a student here I think. Nike uniforms, Nike shoes, Nike balls, the whole spiel of it. Have we always had a Nike partnership? If not, for how long have we had one? Did we partner with other brands in the past, and if so, what caused the switch(es)?

(I’m bored and the sports teams aren’t sporting good)

Pretty sure we were and1 for awhile. Adding football change supplier dynamics IIRC

What do you mean by that last part?

Adding football changes the dynamics with number of athletes type of gear and contract potential

Can’t remember who we were with when the basketball uniforms got botched and were lime green. Was it Adidas or was that And1? Whichever it was awful.

Feel like the messed up green was and1.

Also feel like we were Reebok at some point but don’t actually remember that.

Pretty sure that was 2002 or 2003, and certain that it was And1, and the uniforms were Kelly Green.

I think teams could pick what they wanted prior to football. There were several years that baseball used Under Armour, Rawlings, and even Adidas. Soccer’s first hooped jersey was from the Soccer shop in pineville.

Kids like nike the best. It doesn’t really matter for us, as there’s no way we sell very much gear with the current arrangement for gear sales. We are currently contracted with BSN for nike products. BSN could do a substantially better job than Barnes and Noble with gear sales, and they do for hundreds of schools across the country. I don’t think our administration is allowed to provide those BSN online shops to the general public per the terms of our B&N agreement. Barnes and Noble agreement is not beneficial for athletics in any way.

You guys have a better memory than I do. Thanks!

As someone who has gotten access to the “exclusive” 49er club BSN store for the past few years… I can tell you it is not that great. We get a pretty limited selection of items and most of the items have limited sizes. You are in luck if you are size Small/Medium or XXXL. I brought it up to the foundation late last year and they said supply chain issues are still an problem, but they are working to improve it…

Jeff Mullins had a Reebok deal of some kind when he was hired and he brought that with him to UNCC athletics. I was an assistant coach for another sport at the time and I remember our athletes were excited to have a footwear sponsor!!

We were Reebok under Mullins

Ah the good 'ole days

That’s interesting to hear.

I know that there are issues with availability at the high school level sometimes with all of the major providers.
