I am attaching two resolutions that deal with CLT 49er athletics. The Student Senate passed these on Wednesday. They will go to the Student Body President next for signing or veto, and then to the mandates listed at the bottomg of each Resolution.
These deal with congratulating the A-10 champ Indoor Track team and Conf. Championship Banners that hang in halton.
I was the author and Senator who introduced both of these.
Contact the Student Body President in support of these if you want to see them signed.
I’m not sure any banner that I’ve ever seen in any arena states “co-champions.” I might be able to go along with the name of the conference and if it was a regular season or tournament champion however.
Also… this is a marketing ploy done by most all athletic departments. They are going to put on the best face and it looks good for recruits.
Does the student senate not have more pressing matters to discuss? Are they going to pay to the purchase of these new banners?

UNC-Raleigh has tie written on some of its banners, I am almost certain. I feel its just a question of honesty and accuracy.
I haven’t been at UNC Charlotte for long but I was here in 2004 and when I came back to school that next fall, we gave out conference championship rings and I saw a player wearing a conf. championship t-shirt and I was very confused. I didn’t remember winning a conference title the year before. All I remember is we did not get a bye in the conf. tournament and we lost to UAB in the second round of the tournament. It sure didn’t feel like a conference championship to me.
As for the senate, we are nearing the end of the term so I am just trying to pack some pork for my constituents in the Coll. of Engineering. They were passionate on this issue. J/k

I agree with you.
Has anyone tried passing a resolution to put a referrendum or two on the ballot?
Such as: “Do you support changing the name of our institution to The University of Charlotte?” or “Would you support a $250/year increase in student fees to support the start of a football program?”
I bet those two referrendums would get voter turn-out up.

I tried the 1st one to get it on the spring ballot. I was rejected by the Senate, but we are still working on it. Look for it next fall possibly.
While your at it can you replace all of the NCAA banners except the final four banner, with one banner saying we made it to the NCAA, and then show the year similar to the conference champion banners currently.
