Athlon pre-season magazine

I hear we’re predicted to finish #2 in C-USA, Sweet 16. It hits the stores in mid-September.

That looks like Francisco’s expression just before Baldwin streaked to the basket at the other end and made me a crow-eater last season.

PULEEEZE!! If they weren’t heading to the Big Least after this year, this would NOT be happening. Hype. Pure and simple.

#1  :o

I think this actually means that the Louisville/Kentucky rivalry is #1…not Pitino’s bunch.
If you see other regional covers of the magazine, they are putting “rivals”…or top 5 rivals as an emphasis.

Of course, could be wrong…Just a thought.

After posting, went to the Athlon website…looks like they DO have the Cards @ #1…say it ain’t so.

Hopefully it holds true, I’d love to kick the #1 teams ass on their home court.

That’s what I said.

I wondered how long it was going to take someone to catch the UofL thing when I first posted something about it back on August 24th!

Are they listing Louisville #1 in the country??? Or #1 in conference USA??

Both.

The Coach Big-Ego hype machine is in full gear. Juan Palacios suddenly grew wings and became a god the second Big-Ego signed him. And they magically found a point guard so Garcia doesnt have to play 3 positions…

So if they’re #1, that means were at least top 10, right? Probably even top 5? Oh wait, Big-Ego doesn’t think so, so it must not be.

That’s a joke, they’re not even the 4th best team in the ACC… They really shouldn’t be ranked ahead of us.

Did Athlon watch them last year and see how Dean And Gracia were average at best. They also must of not gotten the memo that Telfair went to the NBA and Padgett does play until next year.

They're not in the ACC, of course they're not the 4th best in a conference they don't belong to. UConn wasn't even the 4th best team in the ACC last year either.

Louisville’s not the top’s of C-USA, love him or hate him Huggins is still #1.

Well, I just checked the UL boards and saw a few things:

  1. Apparently, Athlon picked Syracuse two years ago and UConn last year (who didnt?), so a few of their fans are all twitterpated about the ranking.

  2. Most of their fans seem to be more realistic and think they are overranked by Athlon, but NONE of their fans have any respect for us. Even the pessimistic ones think they are gonna win about 24 games, and run right over us. Only one guy even brought us up as a possible loss, (either to us or Depaul).

That just blows me away. We have one other thing in common with the Panthers, it seems, besides just playing in the same city.

I just wanna go on record as having said that no matter what they are rated, it will be too high for Marquette, Cincy & UL. The Niners and Depaul will be underrated, and Memphis, as much as I hate some of their fans, has three future pros on their team and should be much more dangerous than Cincy & Maqruette, as long as they rebound and bother to play defense.

Thanks for clearing that up for me…

Is UCONN in the ACC??

I think he was reiterating about the whole not in the conference thing.

Anways, honestly, I hate to say this, it pains me, but I think Louisville will be the team to beat this season. Remember they also have Myles back which should shore up the front line. Heard nothing but good things about Palacios either.
One thing I like though is we match up really really really well with them. They can’t press us, and we have what it takes to win a halfcourt game against them. We also play lights out in Freedom Hall quite often.

After that, Memphis looks really good.

Sorry UC, You’re not in my top three. Deal with it.

UAB sucks.

If I remember correctly, they were predicted to do very well last year and when March rolled around some considered them a bubble team. I know they had some injuries, but they absolutley fell apart at the end of the season. This a a team that was BLOWN OUT by TCU.

That said, I do think they will be very good this year if they can be a little more consistent and keep everyone healthy. #1 in the nation is a stretch though.

At one point they really were smoking though. Picked apart Florida and Kentucky, then played that UNREAL half of basketball against UC.
