Hard to believe we are 1 game away from completing the non-conference schedule and starting our 6th season of Atlantic 10 play, it has been a LONG ride since the G******-W*** game. How does everyone think we will fair against the A10?

It’s tough to predict for me because I almost feel like our season is new again and we don’t know exactly what we have.

I could see us going anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6.

As long as this team continues to progress, continue playing the great defense they’ve been playing, and start taking much better care of the basketball, I see no reason why we can’t go at LEAST 9-7 in the A10.

10-6. I also think we win at GT tomorrow, too, which would make us 18-12 for the year. Probably not good enough for the NIT, but I wouldn’t be upset by 18 wins one bit considering the way we started.

I’d say it would depend a great deal on our performance in the A-10 tournament. If we go one and done, we’ll probably be playing golf. If we can win our first round game (especially if 10-6 got us a bye?) then who knows. I’d love to see us make the NIT, I think that would be a pretty decent result for this squad, and definitely would definitely help recruiting by making the post-season in Major’s first year.

While we are making progress towards shifting our style, we are still not very good. The A10 is much better than most of the teams we’ve beaten. I hope we do well, but I don’t expect it.

Kenpom has a very similar prediction (I didn’t check it until after I made my predictions, but it’s the same except swapping La Salle and UMass, and giving us wins both times versus GW): http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Charlotte

Even though the A10 isnt as good as it has been, most of the teams are very well coached.

4-12
so you don’t think we will win a single road game?

Considering that we are 10th of 14 in the A-10 standings, I hope we can at least make the NIT, or make a strong run in the A-10 tourney.

5-11, squeak into the A10 tournament but lose first round.

You guys predicting 11-5 or 10-6 in conference are being awfully optimistic from my view. A few weeks ago I’d have predicted even worse. This team is clearly improving, but they are going to run up against a few things in conference play: 1) teams with better outside shooters than we’ve faced recently, 2) better homecourt advantages and little respect from A10 refs, and 3) coaches that will better exploit our weaknesses. Plus, a few teams will have players back that missed most of the OOC (e.g. URI and SLU). I’d love to be wrong, but I just don’t see the team doing well in conference this year.

Those are good points. I would add that all of the minutes our guys are playing will catch up to them even more as the season goes on. These are well conditioned athletes, but 30 minutes a game has to start wearing you down 20 games into a season.

I’d say we get 4 wins at home (probably dropping one to a bad team and stealing one from a good team) and then get 2 or 3 road wins. 8-8 would be pretty impressive I think.

Having said that, if our big men keep playing well and Briscoe gets his stroke back, I think we could overachieve. Briscoe can be the difference for us, he is an explosive scorer and when he regains his touch I think we’ll be a different team.

Sticking with my previous post predicting 9-7. There will be nights where A10 opponents will put a hurt on us, but I just believe the potential is there to be in the upper half of the standings after game 16. A lot of that is going to depend on us improving how well we take care of the ball and get those turnovers down, especially the unforced ones.

On a side note, it will be fun to track who’s predictions are closest to what actually goes down as the A10 season rolls on.

Thought I’d bump this up, with the win last night I think this warrants more thoughts and predictions on the A10 season. ;D
