I donāt know why it just hit me, but how luck are we to start the program and be where we are at now. If I were to tell you last year that we would be in this position now, you probably wouldnāt believe me. Letās sit back and enjoy what we are witnessing. Let crack open a cold one whether weāre down south in warmer weather or back in the states and watch our Niners bowl! Letās be grateful that we will be part of a special group of people that get to watch this program rise to greatness. One day we will think back to this season and this bowl game and smile because we will know that this was just the beginning.

My understanding is that most schools loose money on their bowl game. First, they have to pay for their allotment of bowl tickets and sell those tickets to make the money back. Most fans donāt go through the school for their tickets, so they lose money there. Then travel costs usually donāt get cover by the bowl payout. Conference sharing of other revenues (TV, radio, etc.) help the schools get to the black overall.
So with that long winded preface - I imagine the crowd funding money is going to any bowl related expenses that arenāt covered by the bowl and conference revenues (band travel? spirit squad travel?)
Actually thereās a separate one to try and fund the band making the trip if anyone wants to help.

Actually, if you donate through the crowdfund (the non-band crowdfund), it appears to go into the Athletic Foundationās general fund, not necessarily paying bowl-related expenses. It references making a difference for future student-athletes.

I guess we will also get a CUSA memberās cut of the other teams (6?) bowl games as well. May not be much, but will help out.

So we may actually make money when we donāt go and lose money when we do go?

I think what we are seeing is Hill is increasing the number of ways to contribute, and the number of times we ask for money. Like the āBeard Fundā after his honeymoon, this will probably not raise a lot of money, but they are breaking out of the āwe donāt do thatā mold that has been our department mantra for so long.
