Baseball Regional Projections

I’ve seen several projections lately so I thought I’d post them here. If anyone finds more just post them here.

lol
we are not a 4 seed

lol we are not a 4 seed

Really? Because I think we may need the auto bid to even get in. What seed are we?

Really? Because I think we may need the auto bid to even get in. What seed are we?

I think winning 2 games last year in the NCAA is huge for this year, it proved we belong,

I think if we can win 2 tourny games, we are in. It makes us 42-15 and a 55 RPI. I think we get a 3 seed, by at large or auto.

4 seeds are for the Woffords of the world.

Wanna know what dictates us getting an at large? What they do with teams like:
24- Clemson 30-25
29- Ark 33-22
40- UCLA 29-23
41- Baylor 30-24
42- WSU 28-25

we also will turn in a resume that clearly shows we struggled when 4 pitchers went down, and a pre season All America got hurt. All of them will be ready for NCAA play.

I know NC State has come on fairly strong the last half of the year, but HOSTING a regional…

Well NC State is in the ACC so you know…

Totally agree. No tournament title means going home for summer ball.

Sorry Metro, I agree with whit and lovin.

No way the A10 gets 2 bids.

1 win against the Top 100 RPI, 2 losses to teams above 200, and 8 total losses to teams above 150 is not going to help our cause. Our strength-of-schedule is lousy, #156 or #214, depending on which site you use. Our conference is terrible for baseball, but the fact that we only played 4 teams (6 games) in the top 100 of the RPI in non-conference will stand out should we be seeking an at-large bid. There are 12 teams (excluding us) from North Carolina or South Carolina in the current RPI Top 100 (according to WarrenNolan). We played 3 of them (Winthrop was #106). Travel expenses cannot be an excuse as for why we did not schedule some of these teams, because none are more than 5 hours away by bus and we made road trips to play USC-Upstate, Furman, Presbyterian, and NC A&T. Our baseball schedule looks much like Syracuse’s basketball schedule: lots of home cupcakes during non-conference. The difference is that they have a killer conference to fall back on to boost their RPI. I’ll be really surprised if we get an at-large bid should we not win the A-10 Tourney considering our schedule.

SOS is already factored into the RPI, so the RPI is the number that matters most (after overall record, of course) and our RPI according to Metro is 55 (I haven’t checked it lately) which is respectable and atleast puts us in the discussion as long as we win 1-2 games in the A10 tourney. I also agree with Metro that last years performance could sway the committee our way, if it really is close between us and somebody who hasn’t done anything in recent years.

Pretty good points.

You know what would be cool? A weekend series in Charleston. Great town and a cool long weekend.

Sure it is, but when the Selection Committee is choosing between us and the teams right around us, who do you think’s going to get the nod when they start looking at who you’ve played? We have 1 quality win. 1 ONE. Close losses are not going to help us. Losing 8 games in the #20 conference will get us noticed too, in a bad way.

Just like when we’re on the bubble in basketball, we have to hope that there are no upsets in the other conference tournaments that put teams in the NCAA Tourney that are currently behind us in the RPI. With every upset, our at-large chances diminish. More importantly, if we take care of business it will not matter.

…and just like in the basketball tournaments, teams from those “power-conferences” that think they deserve to go because they went .500 in their great league get disappointed quite often!

Pretty good points.

Over40NINER endorses this idea.

I heard on the radio today that Clemson had to rely on a Duke loss just to get in to the ACC Tournament as an 8 seed. They said that they play Miami in the 1st round so I don’t think they can make too much noise.
