Basketball Culture of Losing

As anti Major as I am - I agree with this. It is all about sustained winning. Before we can sustain it we have to just start winning. If Odom can get us to the dance then he should get a shot with the them in the offseason and next year. Still not sure how I feel about Major if our big run happens without him on the bench and his health is still a concern.

Amen to that! Roy’s schtick is beyond old at this point - right up there with Coach K’s annual griping about the NCAA Selection Committee shortchanging the ACC.

Yup. Our seed would be low, tough matchup, etc and I would still be thrilled to be in the tournament.

I have my own theories on this… the first is I think in the beginning of the year there isn’t as much film on how our team plays, as the year goes on other coaches scout us and watch film to learn what we want to do, our coaching staff doesn’t make adjustments, we get beat all over the place, until we play above our coaching like the La Tech game.

I also think we have depth issues, I’ve heard many on here disagree with this but whatever, it isn’t a coincidence the best year Major had (that lead to a extension no less) we had 10-11 solid players on the team. We haven’t had the depth in the last two years, a team at our level needs as many high caliber players as possible to make up for injuries and cold spells (see BO in the middle of the year) this also goes back to coaches game planning against us, the more horses you have the more things you can change. The Duke and Lousiville can get away with playing 7-8 guys when they have mutiple MC AA’s and top 50 recruits but we can’t.

Of course depth is an issue. I don’t remember the last time we actually had 13 healthy, eligible scholarship players on our bench. Unfortunately, this too comes back to the coach. (ie; unexpected transfers and eligibility issues) as well though.

I agree about Odom. I’d rather have no NCAA than an NCAA and a Major extension. Only because I truly believe in my heart of hearts if that were to occur, we’d just end up with another 5+ years without an NCAA and no real hope, but a significantly over-extended contract for Major bc Judy is just grasping onto dear life for any way to say ā€œI told you soā€ in the face of her epic failure, so I fully expect there would be an obnoxiously over-the-top extension for Major if we made the NCAAs and she attributed it to him and not Odom.

I’d be all for giving Major/Odom another year to see how things go if he accomplishes that, but I wouldn’t be okay with an extension.

I think that’s fair enough, I just don’t honestly see it going down that way.

We granted the last extension after an NIT and gave him 5 years under contract. I could see them to granting another extension if we make the NCAA to push him back to 5. Not saying I agree with it or that I really expect it but would not be surprised if it happened, this go round they would have actually shown something. Not the smartest thing, but aligns with some of the stupid shit we do.

A moot point, because we are NOT making the NCAAs. We probably won’t win our first conference tourney game. :frowning:

CJMORGAN didn’t intend to offend anybody by posting this link. In fact, he was not praising good ole’ Roy or UNC by any means. The purpose of the article was to point out a coach (any coach) that has no problem trying to get his fanbase excited and energized. He feels it is a necessary part of his job. I don’t like Carolina either, but just examining the idea suggested in the article. CJMORGAN suggests you grow a thicker skin if it bothers you that much.

CJ, this board is a bit snarky. I got your drift on Roy. He’s a tool but he cares. Our guy claps fast. He claps fast.

Roy does a great job of deflecting. Horrible timing too.

Wonder if he kicked any GT fans at the game?

Right. And if we were to go to the final four this year it would totally ruin our basketball program.

We won’t know until March 16, Black Monday. I have a gut feeling that they are gone, but I also know to never underestimate Judy Rose’s ultimate desire to be right. She will only ever retire if we all believe that she will never retire, then she can prove us wrong one more time.

clt says he is a tool, and he whines. Aw shucks, it is good ol roy.
