:o
Who sold to online brokers before the schools were sold out? Dumb-arse.
With revenue splitting with BCS bowl $, why isn’t the split after profits, not after the payout, so your payout for actually going doesn’t cover your costs, you lose $, & you’d have made more $ to be a losing team in a BCS conf.?
When making bowl bonuses for coaches, why not mandate they only get it IF the bowl is a net profit, not a net loss?
Crazy, since TCU bought their full allotment of tix to the Rose Bowl. I think it was 20k tix they had to sell.
Would leaving hundreds of millions of $$$$$$$ on the table make Delany, Scott, Beebe, Swofford, Slive and Marinatto Leaders or Legends?
You’re required to pay for your unsold allotment of tickets.
This is why many schools LOSE money going to bowl games.
The system is all about control, a playoff is needed yesterday.
Most folks see the $17.7 million average payout from a BCS bowl game and think that goes in the university that played in the game’s pocket. While many conferences let the team involved keep a larger portion, all the other schools in that conference get their cut too; and without all the expenses involved in actually having to go and play in the game. Now think about those bowls that only pay $850K! :o
Sorry to upset J_Felt, but Virginia Tech has only sold 6,500 of its 17,500 allotment to the Orange Bowl.
A must read on bowl ticket sales…

Michigan’s AD said the only time the Football program has been in the black recently is the two years they had a losing record.
SI had a great article in print last month that a majority of programs lose money on bowl games.
JFelt quit letting your wife down. Buy those VT tix. :))
In the end, who really cares about a pointless exhibition. That’s why tickets are not being sold. VT has been to the orange bowl 3 of the last four now. Their fans have to get a little disappointed at this point.
At this point in the season, with this current system, only 2 teams can dream. If there was a playoff, 16 teams would still be dreaming and all their fans would be scooping up the tickets.
The link is in my post above yours.
VT’s been losing money going to BCS games for awhile now. The only way to make money during bowl season is to either go to the nat’l championship (even then it’s not much) or not go to a bowl at all.
VT fans will travel to the Orange Bowl en masse, but they won’t buy their tickets from the AD.

[/quote]That’s prob why you VT is losing money. If you don’t sell your allotment, your f’d.
Why would anyone pay full price for a ticket when you can get them on the cheap elsewhere?
It’s amazing that schools haven’t boycotted the bowl system by now. They even have to pay for tickets for the band!

TCU sold all 20,000 of theirs for the Rose Bowl and were clamoring for more. haven’t looked it up, but they aren’t a big school, prob not 10k students.
