Beer @ Stadium

Nugget, the Wake fans drink those beers before the games and during the half. Instead of soda and chips, they buy beer. Of course some Niners get our beer free before our games.

That makes more sense. When you said during the game, I was thinking during the game. And let me assure you, those beers before our games aren’t free–but they are good.

Normmm I was here in the mid-'90’s & I don’t remember a bar. Maybe if they had told someone, wait, they must have been run by the Athletic Dept.

The bar under RDH closed the year before my freshman year which was '91. I can still remember the signs being up. I think the bar on the other sides of campus (CAB at the time) didn’t open until after 95 because I sure don’t recall anything about it while I was still in school.

Unfortunately this was before the interwebs. So it will be difficult to document any of it. But the bar portion was in the section to the right as you walked in the main front door. There was an actual separate entrance on the right hand, that I believe was only a fire exit previously.

Probably failed because no one knew they were there.

…And it was the people’s fault they didn’t know. Not anyone associated with the school’s job to promote anything about the school. Hmpf.

How do we know if no one tells us bust?

I am mocking someone’s idea of marketing.

Wait…I don’t know of any college football stadiums that serve beer, on campus or off. UCLA plays football in the Rosebowl, about 45 mins from Brentwood, and they don’t serve alcohol. Same with Southern Cal and Ol’ Miss. I think there are NCAA laws discouraging the sale of Booze at sporting events. Sorry for the west coast examples (I live in LA)

Did they sell beer at Time Warner Cable arena when we played Tenn?

Yep. Louisville’s been selling alcohol for years at Freedom Hall.

Syracuse sells beer at the Carrier Dome.

According to the article, every Big East team will sell beer other than Rutgers.

I drank beer with my cotton candy at TWC Arena vs. UTK.

C-USA tourney was great at Freedom Hall.

NCAA only forbids alcohol at NCAA postseason events.

Championship Policy -

•The NCAA has for years banned sales and venue advertising of all alcohol at its 88 championships. Host sites are required to cover up any ads for alcoholic drinks.
•The NCAA does not control the regular season in any sport, nor does it run the postseason for the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. Individual schools and conferences oversee the regular season, including game operations, broadcasting and advertising. The postseason for Division I Football Bowl Subdivision is controlled by the Bowl Championship Series and individual bowl committees.

Most schools do not allow it if for no other reason than the Verni case against Aramark. Guy has too much to drink at a New York Giants game, hits a girl on the way home and causes her to be paralyzed, jury awards the family $105 million dollars against the stadium vendor, long story short they end up settling out of court and were successful in separate suits and settlements against the driver, Aramark (the vendor), the New York Giants, and the NFL. Most universities therefore won’t sell it because legal precedent is already established for lawsuits. Some conferences have rules specifically barring member institutions from selling alcohol, some schools like Colorado State only allow beer sales until halftime, and some schools like Maryland allow beer sales throughout. The University of Memphis has alcohol available at games, but it is sold by the City of Memphis which owns the stadium, and keeps UMemphis clear of trouble should it arise.

Pretty sure it is barred by the UNC system.

Not completely, the skyboxes at both Kenan and Carter-Finley both server alcohol.

Alcohol SELLS are prohibited on UNC campuses. FREE alcohol that is GIVEN is allowed. That’s what you get inside a luxury box, you give a big enough donation to the program and they’ll buy you something to drink.

What about alcohol SALES?

Got to be something more to it than being on campus because Carter-Finley is not on NCSU’s campus, yet I do not believe they sell alcohol.
