Bernard Thompson - 2011 G/F

I give Major a lot of credit for having an obvious style he is recruiting. I don’t think Lutz was as clueless of a recruiter as a lot of people seem to think, but his targets seemed to be 1) lights-out 3 point shooter and 2) best available. Good to see Major has a style he wants and also isn’t afraid to recruit multiple players with apparently similar skill sets, if these guys can play, they will get the PT.
Clueless as a recruiter? Nah, he was actually very good at evaluating talent. The problem is, he didn’t land the big fish early and they blew up and signed with other schools and he had no plan.

I don’t disagree with any of that, but a lot of the comments here since he left sure seem like quite a few people here thought he was pretty clueless.

Anyway, no need to hijack another thread on this topic, Thompson seems to fit Major’s desired system, you can never have enough talented wing players.

It was Pitino or Crum that one time said something like “gimme 5 guys 6’7 or so & long [wingspan] who can all shoot, defend & dribble, and I’ll give you a championship”.

had 15 & 6 in a loss tonight. Was described to me by another scout as “long & solid.”

clt says that’s what she said.

Haha clt is quick and beat me to it…by a mile

So we aren’t interested anymore?

That I’m not sure EE. I would think we are, as we just got in the mix recently with Thompson, but you never can tell.

Said his best offer right now is Northeastern, that will change, kid is blowing up.

Per Rivals

One of the hottest shooting guard names in the country is Bernard Thompson. A 6-foot-3 senior at Conyers (Ga.) Rockdale County, Thompson is in the midst of a big final campaign. He’s got good athleticism, a fine looking stroke and can bury jumpers off of the dribble

Thin and long-armed, he's a big-time athlete who can create his shot off the bounce and has deep range. He's playing with tremendous energy and confidence right now while schools on all levels are scrambling for more info and a better evaluation. He's just starting to hear from schools and mentioned Northeastern, Murray State, LaSalle, Georgia Southern and Clemson as some who have already shown interest. Given his performance in front of a swarm of coaches on Friday, many more will be calling.

per DMcDonaldHoops on twitter:

Georgia State and VCU are the newest schools to offer 2011 SG Bernard Thompson.

Going to Florida Gulf Coast

Did a lot of schools back off? He goes from Northeastern, VCU, etc. to Florida Gulf Coast?

I had to google FGU to see what conference they were in. They’ve landed 2 quality players with Thompson and Comer recently.
