best neighborhoods to live close to uptown

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a pretty decent neighborhood uptown. I’ve been looking for houses close to uptown and I’m trying to stay around 250,000 or under… here is a short list I’ve complied:
Chantilly
Plaza Midwood
Wesley Heights
Seversville (any info on this area would be nice)
Sedgefield
Wilmore
Third Ward
Cotswold
Elizabeth (little out of my price range)

Any other suggestions would be cool thanx guys.

You can probably get the biggest house in Wesley Heights. It’s on the west side so there is still a lot of problems in adjacent neighborhoods. WH itself is nice, but outside of that, not so much.

This website will give you a pretty good idea of the house values, crime stats, population, and economics conditions of neighborhoods in Charlotte

Dilworth…you maybe able to find some condos for less than 250k. Check 1315 East, Dilworth Walk, Latta, or Omstead Park.

I was just in the wesley heights area today scoping out the houses it is really on the rise and some homes are 400,000 plus, but there is still a good mix of the original traces still there. I just thought about adding Villa Heights to the list, but it looks a little sketchy there.

Yea I’ve looked at Dilworth, but they are out of price range for what I’m looking for. I’m mostly looking at 2-3 bedroom house. If anyone has lived in any of these areas and can shed some light on what you like/dont like let me know. Or if any I should stay away from I would greatly appreciate that too.

good luck buddy. those are nice neighborhoods, and nice neighborhoods close to downtown in Charlotte are $$$$$$$$. You are pretty much limiting yourself to condos for that price.

I rent a 900 square foot 2 bedroom house in Dilworth. Zillow value is almost $400k.

I had a friend who recently bought a pretty nice 3 BR house in Belmont (the neighborhood, between Parkwood and the Plaza, not the city) for $180k. Of course, Belmont is hood-to-the-max. But if you can deal with crack deals in your neighborhood, then it’s a pretty good deal.

You can buy a home in Wilmore for what you’re asking for and hope the place gets gentrified a little faster.

Yeah Wilmore is still a little ghetto, which means it’s affordable in Charlotte. West Blvd = crime. I drive through that neighborhood every day on my way to work and am amazed at the drunken retards who stumble through the streets at all hours of the day. But from the amount of flipped houses along the way, it seems like its being gentrified a la Cherry pretty quick.

Where do the poor people from gentrified neighborhoods go anyway?

I’ve found plenty of homes in my price range in all of those neighborhoods… I was just looking for some insight into the areas the good the bad if anyone has lived there…and belmont is way tooo hood for me. I drove through there 2 days ago and it was not the greatest experience.

University City and further up Beatties Ford Road. I would be careful with Wesley Heights, still a work in progress. The Metropolitan has some pretty nice lofts/condos still at decent prices. You may want to look around Park Road Shopping Center. Alot of people here at work have found some good deals in that area.

I grew up in Cotswold. GREAT area.

In fact, my parents are trying to sell their house. 3 bedrooms, freakin HUUUUUGE front and back yards (combined 1.6 acres I believe), double car garage, huge car patio/basketball court, phenomenal location at the end of a dead end street, etc etc etc…

They just dropped their asking price by triple digits bc they want to sell soon.

PM me for more.

Can you post some links? My wife and I were house-shopping for over a year and struck out in anything affordable that was in Chantilly, Plaza-Midwood, Sedgefield, Cotswold, or Elizabeth.

University Club

Plaza-Midwood! FTW!!!

Plaza Midwood is going up in value all the time. Closer to the golf course the better!

I’d check out NoDa also. I actually was about to move in a condo there until I got my job in DC. I had my deposit on it and everything.

i have some coworkers who have homes in Madison Park, very affordable and good neighbors

surrounded by Park, Tyvola, Woodlawn, and South.

On that CharMeck map check out areas 69, 70 and 71. That’s where I’m at. It’s adjacent to Madison Park. I love it. It’s not exactly downtown. But it’s a great location because it’s about 5 minutes from downtown and 5 minutes from SouthPark.

Seriously, can you post some links to sub-$250k homes in those neighborhoods?

Mr. Sparty is in real estate and actually these areas are sort of his cup of tea, so I’m sure he could answer some questions for any of you guys! His email is steve @ mytownhome .com Tell him you are from NNN
Drinks on me if you close on a house with him!

I vote plaza midwood, lots of nice craftsman styles to gussy up.
