After some thought, I wonder if Hill told Poggi to get rid of the OC and/or DC and he, Poggi said no, so it left Hill with no other choice but to fire Poggi
Lots of evidence that there was cause
And if Hill had waited until the end of the season then there would be copious amounts of bitching about how every other school making a change got the jump on us. Catch-22 territory.
Would love it if possible
Iām honestly shocked he fired him. We had a real chance to get to 5-7 and show progress. This is honestly one of the more curious moves Hill has made. Unless he has someone awesome lined up, like Wilkes.
I probably shouldnāt get anyoneās hopes up about Wilks.
Thatās just my wishful thinking.
But I do think we need to be thinking like that. Stop screwing around and get a real coach.
and 4-4 in conference; that would have been easy to sell progress. Personally I would have liked Biff to have another year with new coordinators.
What if (combined 1-11) FAU and UAB games had been scheduled earlier in the season??
Serious question. Why would Wilks be a good hire?
I see he was only a HC for one year at Savannah state and he has been in the NFL for 18 out of the last 19 years.
Donāt we need an experienced college head coach?
I may have been one of the few who listened to Poggiās weekly check-ins with ESPN 730. Anyway, canāt really recall anything of substance coming out of those. Bobby et al would ask about starting QB and that was typically met with obfuscation. Plus Coach never used the entire allotted 15 minutes and Bobby even commented on how the sessions seemed to get shorter each week. Iād say Poggi had already started āchecking outā some time ago.
Iāll throw out some coach names:
Tyson Helton, WKU coach
Tim Albin, Ohio coach
Charles Huff, Marshall coach
Tyson Helton is really interesting to me.
Someone threw this guy out on Twitter ā¦ Southern Miss is likely to hire him soon if we donāt get involved:
Buster Faulkner Buster Faulkner - Google Search
Young though, and hasnāt been a HC yet.
In post game interview Biff said the poor performance is on him and he will accept any consequence . That made me wonder. He also sounded a little more up in this post game interview compared to other loss interviews, possible relieved ???
A 5-7 record with this schedule would have left me optimistic about next season, but if he lost the final two remaining games and went 3-9 again, I would have no confidence at all that he can get the job done, and with bowl eligibility gone there would not have been any motivation to win
Having said that, I would like to have seen one more year given to him to see what he can
do in the portal, and see what changes he was willing to make in terms of coordinator
Advice to our next head coach, do not get blown out on homecoming, it never works out well for the HC
I heard that on the post game radio interview. I actually laughed and told my wife there would be no consequences because he wouldnāt be fired. Kind of glad I was wrong about that.
Yes please.
A Steve Wilks HC would be my dream. I think he would like that too. After all heās a big reason we won against Gardner this year.
