Biff Poggi post-dismissal discussion

Are you saying he should be off pudding?

Over the summer Hunter interviewed Biff asking him what he missed most about Charlotte and he said Giacomo’s restaurant.

Giacomo’s is pretty good.

Once upon a time there was a group of people that drank the Kool-Aid thanks to Jim Jones. Present day, there appears to be a lot of people drinking the Kool-Aid thanks to messaging coming from the University. My advice, use your head and a little common sense. Poggi was not that bad of a coach. He was not hired to be a super fantastic head coach but rather more of a general manager role building a program. He was building the foundation and recruiting high-level Talent. If Biff is coaching over the next few weeks at Michigan simply because he is donating significant money to Michigan, just think what impact he could have had at Charlotte with our limited budget. In my strong opinion, Biff was let go because he was pushing our University to be the best we can be. Our University and our current state is satisfied and very comfortable being Who We Are.

Poggi was pushing us to get out of our comfort. Fighting on the sidelines, making donors mad, and most of the AD dept could not stand trying to work with him. I forgot about him taking 6 weeks in Italy and missing summer workouts. He also embarrassed our school dressing as a clown on the sidelines

That is absolutely untrue. His recruiting for 2025 was garbage but more than that, he was terrible ā€œgm.ā€ He made terrible coordinator hires and the culture around the program was toxic. He was not fired for tge reason you described. We actually hired a real coach this time, with a proven track record of winning. Not only that but the guy definitely exaggerated his wealth so that would have had the impact you think. How anybody can defend his is beyond me.

Let me tell you after talking to players parents at the tailgate on top of what I heard from the AD there is absolutely nothing good about Biff.

One of the worst coaching hires in our history and justification for letting Mike go. He was that bad in every facet.

I had posted some comments here on this, but I took them down—–some of you guys aren’t worth the time.

My take on Biff was that he was clearly an unconventional hire, a risk, but one that had me excited too…if we’re being honest, how many initially loved the cut-off look until they didn’t? I think Mike Hill knew it was unconventional, so when MIke fired him, that was acknowledging the risk failed. We now have a proven winner HC and even though the first two games have been extraordinarily frustrating, I remain more excited about Niner football since 2019 or, honestly, 2013. I’m happy to be patient with Tim Albin in ways I never was with any of our other coaches because he has a track record I trust.

I bought the kool-aid with Biff, got excited about the talent recruited, but the bravado wore off quickly that first season…the start of year two, I admit to knowing nothing about some things I’ve read or heard, but was still excited with Max and some of the other talent and truly expected the team to exceed my hope…that happened in one game only…against ECU. We should have lost to UAB…inexplicably the kicker missed TWO FGs to save the day.

I wish Biff only the best, as I do with players who leave…but I wasn’t disappointed when Biff was fired.

The worst thing he did was destroy our connection to the NC House budget. Jason Saine resigned and was turned into Biff’s guy over the past few years, not our (Charlotte’s) guy. He basically singlehandedly made the tower expansion possible, as well as many other capital projects. That move will doom us in the future more than any win or loss.

Biff was a big risk and we all knew that. I don’t have a problem with taking a risk when nothing else has worked. We were pretty excited with the players he was bringing in and he was talking a good game about getting money in here. It is definitley a ding on Mike HIll for this one.

I don’t have inside info, but I do question why he is so beloved at Michigan if he is such a bad dude??

As if being a Niner fan and coming to this message board wasn’t enough to deal with emotionally, we have to revisit this schlock. OMG! :face_vomiting:

Ridiculous post.

He was hired to coach football which he failed at.

He was not hired to ā€œpush our university to be all it can beā€ or whatever the hell you meant by those last two comments.

do you honestly think that dedicated people in the unc charlotte community are NOT trying to do their best for the university?

you think we can just change our attitude and speak it into existence?

you do realize how much we have grown in the last 75 years right?

Shit takes time man.

And we aren’t ever going to be the ā€œflagshipā€ university for NC no matter how much we grow. UNC Chapel Hill has like a 200 year head start.

OK, it has started again. Everyone needs to calm down and bring a little levity into their lives. I enjoy the YouTube golf creator/influencers stuff being put out there. This is one of the guys, Bob does Sports. Fricking hilarious
